Publisher's summary

In a remote house in the middle of Dartmoor, six shadowy figures huddle around a table for a seance. Tension rises as the spirits spell out a chilling message: "Captain Trevelyan... dead... murder."

Is this black magic or simply a macabre joke? The only way to be certain is to locate Captain Trevelyan. Unfortunately, his home is six miles away and, with snowdrifts blocking the roads, someone will have to make the journey on foot....

Mystery, Humor, Solid Characters, and Hugh Fraser!

The Sittaford Mystery, also appearing in some copies as Murder at Hazelmoor, is a fun and entertaining book to listen to on Audible. As with all Christie books, it is a light murder mystery, one that does not dwell on the grotesque, but rather on the mystery surrounding the characters and the clues. The characters are well-written, and Hugh Fraser's outstanding narration helps to immediately identify their personalities. Emily and Charles bring humor to the book. And, ironically, Inspector Narracott's thoughts provide several red herring chases, each of which help drive the plot. This is a well-rounded story. Remember to listen when each character speaks, no matter how minor! Story line is more interesting than the modern movie. Definitely my favorite Christie book!

One of the Best

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery! Hugh Frasier was perfect in his performance so that I was eager to get a chance to listen to this every day! As much as I love Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, I found this story to be one of my favorite Agatha Christi stories! The characters were interesting and the plot offered lots of fun twists and turns!! Too fun!

Lovely mistery

A very good book. Kept me interested all the way to the last chapter. And the performance was also very good and spot on. I enjoyed it overall.

Hugh Fraser

Hugh Fraser's performance makes it all the more enjoyable! The story is entertaining, though not one of Christie's best. Still worth a listen

Good Story

A different group of characters, not overly well developed, and an interesting story. Worth the listen for Christie fans because it isn't a Poirot our Marple story. The ending is somewhat lackluster and the performance struggles a bit on the voices. The main characters are well enough differentiated, but the peripheral ones, not so much.

Hugh Fraser is superb!

Hugh’s performance is enjoyable and reminiscent of his portrayal of Hastings in Agatha Christie’s Poirot.

A true Christie classic!

Absolutely loved everything about this book. The story was riveting, characters delightful, and Hughes reading was impeccable. I highly recommend this book, The Sittaford Mystery, to anyone who not only loves Agatha Christie but who loves a good mystery.

Great performance & charming characters

Hugh Fraser does an excellent job portraying all the many characters in this story, especially considering the fact that each character has a unique and quirky personality. What really makes the story is the vivid description of the charming small town that this story is set in and its inhabitants. My only qualm is that the ending of this story felt anticlimactic. Usually, in Christie's other novels, the culprit explains him or herself and why they committed the crime, which makes you recollect the entire story in a different way. But in "The Sittaford Mystery," the culprit is revealed then shooed away without any explanation from the character him/herself (no spoilers). It made the ending feel awkward and unconvincing.
