Publisher's summary

The indomitable sleuth Miss Marple is led to a small town with shameful secrets in Agatha Christie’s classic detective story, The Moving Finger.

Lymstock is a town with more than its share of scandalous secrets—a town where even a sudden outbreak of anonymous hate mail causes only a minor stir.

But all that changes when one of the recipients, Mrs. Symmington, commits suicide. Her final note says “I can’t go on,” but Miss Marple questions the coroner’s verdict of suicide. Soon nobody is sure of anyone—as secrets stop being shameful and start becoming deadly.

Christie at her best!

What I like best about this story is the layers of plots, all intertwined and confusing the reader about motives and possibilities until the very end.

Excellent.

Loved it. The narration was wonderful and brought a lot of enjoyment to mystery. Lots of twist and turns throughout with a great surprise ending.

Excellent rendition of a favorite Agatha Christie

This old fashioned rather charming mystery was an unexpected pleasure after my string of English language best sellers and translations of dark Scandinavian thrillers, yet the story held my interest and the narrator was a delight.

No smoke without fire every one chimes, misdirection is the name of the game, 'murder could be easy' without Miss Marple

Big fan of Agatha Christie, loved the Joan Hickson movie of the moving finger. and then the more modern and ever so well done newer version with Julie Mckensie, the whole cast is great,
Loved them both
Spent a lot of time with the audible version, read by Richard Grant
I often fall asleep listening, and when I wake, I'm at a part I was unaware of,
now I'm enjoying discovering the layers, upon layers, always listening and asking, what was it that Agatha had that was so engaging so enduring, across cultures, generations, classes, etc.?
She wove dimensional stories that would continue to unfold

Fun and Clever Story

Loved this story. Fun and highly enjoyable. Agatha Christie is so clever and such a good writer. She creates a beautiful web of mystery for you to eagerly try to unravel before the end when it's done for you. This story is no exception.

Absolutely perfect

Loved everything about it. Performance is great story is fascinating. But isn’t sure how close it is to the actual book, since Ms. Marple was only mentioned in the last 40 mins of reading.

Great mystery

Over the years, I've watched movie and TV productions of Agatha Christie novels, most of which were great, but only recently started reading them and it's amazing how good they are! And I think this is one of the BEST! Add to that the great narration on this Audible recording and you have a wonderful listen! Highly recommended...

Witty and lots of fun!

What did you love best about The Moving Finger?

I loved the characters, especially the main two. I loved the splendid wit. The story kept me wondering too.

What other book might you compare The Moving Finger to and why?

I'd say it's typical Agatha Christie and a lot like The Murder of Roger Ackroyd in that the main character who narrates is extremely witty.

Have you listened to any of Richard E. Grant’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, Murder at the Vicarage. He's very good. He narrates Agatha Christie very well. I liked them both.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it's short enough, but I didn't have the time for one sitting.

Any additional comments?

The one thing that others have also noted is that Miss Marple is hardly in it at all. I think as long as you know that from the start, and accept that, then it does not disappoint. And although I am a huge fan of Miss Marple, I still enjoyed it even with her minimal appearance.
