About this listen

To Stephanie O'Hanlon, 40-something workaholic, a blank to-do list is crazy-making. When she gets laid off and rescues a huge, smiling dog from a shelter - a dog her friend insists is inhabited by Steph's lover from a former life - she discovers the true meaning of crazy.

Gabe Fagen, handyman and crazy-in-love with Stephanie since they were teenagers, sees Steph losing her job as the chance he's been waiting for. But will she notice he's alive with a mysterious giant dog acting as her guardian angel?

A portion of net proceeds from the sale of this audiobook will be donated to animal shelters.

2 1/2 hours well spent!

Any additional comments?

I've always been fond of reincarnation and ghost stories and this one did not disappoint. This story centers on Stephanie who is a workaholic woman who gets laid off of work after devoting her entire life to the company. Now in her mid-40's, she suddenly finds herself with no family, no job, and no love life. In an attempt to cheer her up, Steph's one remaining friend from childhood takes her to an animal shelter to take her mind off her troubles. Despite having no intention of adopting any animal, she immediately falls in love with a monstrous dog she rescues and names William the Conqueror. The rest of the story are the antics that ensue.

Needing to take a business trip this week, I was looking for a story between 2-3 hours to help pass the time. This was 2 1/2 hours well spent. Sara Morsey's narration was excellent. She had good pace, inflections, and tone. I also liked the differing voices, not only between the genders, but the generations as well.

Short but a goody

I loved the story and humor of this novella, it's not very long but it's great. Time will fly by while listening to it, it's that enjoyable.

sweet and enjoyable story is a perfect diversion

AudioBook Review:
Stars: Overall 4 Narration 4 Story 4

Engaging and adorable insets of animal quirks add to the emotional impact of this story as it highlights the human’s own insecurities while encouraging their growth. A well-crafted short story that incorporates humor, insecurities and true emotions to the characters, and presents a story that is as complete as a full-length novel.

Stephanie is a single 40-something woman who existed with her safe and well-defined yet emotionless life: until she is laid off from her job and her best friend convinces her to adopt a dog that is the size of a small pony. Stephanie is removed from her emotions, despite a long-standing relationship, her only, with a therapist. When the dog, William the Conqueror, knocks her maintenance man silly, Stephanie feels that the safer option was to have Gabe stay in her apartment while he recovers.

Gabe and Stephanie knew one another from high school: both were interested but neither were brave enough to make the move. Through it all, the dog, a cross between a pony and wolfhound, is more than able to give her thoughts of emotional growth and potential changes.

Sweet and emotionally available, the narration by Sara Morsey is perfectly suited to the characters and story. She ‘feels” like Stephanie, with a gradual change in emotive emphasis as the characters start to gain their own growth. This sweet and enjoyable story is a perfect diversion that will leave a smile on your face.

I received an AudioBook copy of the title from the publisher via AudioBook Jukebox for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
