Publisher's summary

Bone Gap is the story of Roza, a beautiful girl who is taken from a quiet Midwestern town and imprisoned by a mysterious man, and Finn, the only witness, who cannot forgive himself for being unable to identify her kidnapper. As we follow them through their melancholy pasts, their terrifying presents, and their uncertain futures, acclaimed author Laura Ruby weaves a heartbreaking tale of love and loss, magic and mystery, regret and forgiveness - a story about how the face the world sees is never the sum of who we are.

Critic reviews

  • Printz Award Winner, 2016

"Bone Gap marks Laura Ruby as one of fiction's most original voices. She is capable of moving you to tears, terrifying you on deep and dreamlike levels, and making your heart shout with happiness. This audiobook is magic realism at its most magical." (E. Lockhart, author of We Were Liars)

Beauty is In the Eye of the Beholder

Bone Gap is a quirky, odd tale of two broken brothers, a kidnapped girl, and the "ugly" girl in town. It is written like a fable and the author uses the occasional, surreal imagery to get across his point. You have to be willing to suspend disbelief at times to ascertain the meaning. Like all good authors, he leaves little bits to muse and figure out later and like all good titles, "gap" has more than one meaning. If you don't like weird, then this is not the book for you.

Pretty cool

A little hard to start, but once it starts rolling, it just keeps on going. And then you cant stop. Don't want it to stop. You get to see things in different perspectives and wonder why you haven't seen it that way before.

Bone Gap - Truly Enchanting

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely!

What did you like best about this story?

The writing was beautiful.

Which scene was your favorite?

It's not possible to pick one scene but the most chilling would be when Finn is looking for Rosa amongst the bodies hanging upside down.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Other worlds are closer than you think.

Any additional comments?

I cannot even explain how much I loved this book. I can't list all the reasons why, either. It's less like a book and more like an experience. A journey. An enchantment. A mystery. I liked it so much that I'm sad it's over. I haven't read a book this interesting and beautiful in a long time. I may even have to read it again!

High hopes

This book was good, and that’s the problem. From all the amazed reviews I was seeing, I was expecting something... more. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed this one immensely, but there were others I had been hoping it would rival for bizarre beauty and deep meaning. It was a cool story, but I don’t think it will be staying with me for long. It was good enough.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

I didn’t realize the underlining plot of the Greek mythology but I figured it out after some subtle clues. I think this book is for more mature audiences but overall absolutely loves it.
