About this listen

Strong-minded and independent Julia Bernay comes to London to study medicine and become a doctor - a profession that has only just opened up to women. She witnesses a serious accident and, through her quick actions, saves the life of an ambitious young barrister named Michael Stephenson. Coming from a family that long ago lost its money and its respectability, Michael Stephenson has achieved what many would have thought was impossible. Hard work and an aptitude for the law have enabled him to rise above his family's stigma and set him on the path to wealth and recognition. But his well-laid plans are upended when the accident brings Julia into his life. Michael soon discovers he's met a woman every bit as stubborn and determined to make her mark on the world as he is. Sparks fly - but will they find common ground?

Another good historical fiction

I enjoyed this listen. I liked the main character, Julia very much and her determination to pursue her dream. I thought the author did a good job bringing to life some of the struggles women faced as they entered the “man’s domain” of becoming a doctor. I also thought the male lead was interesting too…not just the run of the mill duke or lord who falls in love with the poor girl. I liked the peak at the 1800s British court system as well. I did not listen to the first book yet, but jumped into this one since the storyline was more appealing to me. I plan to go back & listen to the first one now as well. The narrator had a great tone & was able to do some different accents. I will be looking forward to the next in the series.

Inspirational Romance!

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m already into my second. I loved all the historical facts in addition to clean romance. I also love how the main female character was grounded in her faith. Very enjoyable I highly recommend it!

The struggles of women was eye opening

The strong and the determined character, Julie made the book very interesting. one could see and feel the struggles of the women. I especially enjoyed references to God in such a way that was enlightening but not "Bible thumping" unbearable. I would've liked to have more of a reaction at the very end.

Surprisingly entertaining

The story was fantastic, interesting. A lot of times for me, conservative books may get boring. This story not only kept me bingeing, but I still feel like a Christian afterwards!

A very engaging story

I really enjoyed the whole experience. The Narration was great and the story was really good. I never felt bored or annoyed. I enjoyed the characters as much as the story itself.

Very good

Very good follow-up to book one. I enjoy listening to the continuing story of these sisters. I'm disappointed that book 3 is not on audible. I hope to hear it soon.

10 HRS 20 MIN. SERMON BUT NO REAL ENDING. AWFUL!!!

The only good thing about this book was the narrater. I would listen to another of her books.
But this author is going on my “Never Again” list. Neither the publisher’s summary nor Audible
Warned us that the book is a thinly veiled and Constant !!! sermon! I stuck with it ‘till the end only because I wanted to find the answer to the mystery in the sub plot. Lots of questions posed, Then on the brink of finding out, the book ends.
Audible, please stop “Including” books that are so awful that instead of being “Free” with membership, they wind up being very expensive in terms of our time. This could be fixed by adding labels such as Religious, Clean, Steamy, Foul Language, etc.
