About this listen

Mack Smith had left his shop in Pueblo and was just an hour or so from reaching his brother’s ranch for his annual visit when he felt the bullet slam into his head, and when his eyes finally opened, he found himself flat on his back on the bottom of a ravine.

What the hell had happened? He was only a gunsmith, not a gunfighter. Who would want him dead? When he discovered the reason for the mistaken assassination, it led to bigger changes in his life than he could ever have imagined, and the end to lots of other lives.

The kindness of Matt. And his understanding. This part was breath of fresh air.

I belive to meany people to keep up with. It was if the writer was just putting in filler.

Good Story

I’ve loved a good Western story since childhood, and that appreciation extends to Western movies as well. Recently, I finished reading “The Gun Smith” by C. J. Petit, a captivating novel that I could barely put down—it kept me engrossed late into the night. I learned that Petit began his writing journey later in life while undergoing treatment for cancer, a battle he sadly lost a few years ago. Despite the circumstances, his talent for storytelling shines through. He had an incredible gift for creating unforgettable characters that linger in your thoughts long after you’ve turned the last page, as if they were old friends. Given the challenges he faced, I can overlook any proofing errors on his part, though I hold the publishing company’s editors to a higher standard. If you're in the mood for a wholesome story with a touch of philosophy, I highly recommend exploring Petit’s works. I have long been a Louis L’Amour fan and now will add C. J. Petit to my favorite western authors list.

I listened to this book as an audiobook via Audible. It spans twelve hours and thirty-one minutes, and Michael Alan White does an excellent job narrating the story.

INCOMPLETE

Missing narration from page 217 to page 254. That is a first that I have seen from this narrator. Quality control slipped up.

Another homerun

Well crafted story with a nice ending twist. MAWhite narrations are a perfect compliment to a great story.

Max calmness is the situation he gets into.

How bad the bad guys in this story are. A lot of different plot twists in the story.

Characters were interesting and empathetic. Great narration and engaging story. The chapter that was missing in the previous version has been restored in this version.

Accident or By Design?

Loved the book as expected, but there was a curious gap in the story between the end of Chapter 5 and the beginning of Chapter 6. It all came to light eventually, but I was puzzled why it occurred.

He guilt for what he did to save an ungrateful family. The first half was typical western.

Tying the two halves of the story was a little weak. So of all the books by Mr Petit this book was weak tying the two haves.
I think his stories would be much better if he left out all the sex scenes. I think he does this just to try sell more books.

Important chapter missing.

Thought it might be my download but see I’m not the only one that had this problem. Great author, great narrator but disappointing presentation.
