About this listen

My husband says his first wife’s dead. His daughters say he killed her....

When I married Bill, he was still reeling from the loss of his first wife.

After our wedding, back in his dusty, quiet house, I hugged his daughters Lucy and Sara close and swore I would help heal this grieving family.

I have worked so hard to be a mother for them, to create a warm and happy home.

But sweet, troubled Lucy is still struggling.

I was so worried about her, but now I think I’ve found the perfect therapist. He says he can unlock her memories and reveal what’s really causing her anxiety.

Sitting in his sunlit waiting room, staring at the framed diplomas on the wall, I allow myself to hope.

But then Lucy comes running out of the room, her eyes wild.

She says she saw her mother die.

She says her father killed her....

A completely gripping psychological thriller that will make your heart pound as you try to decide who is telling the truth. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, Paula Hawkins, and Gillian Flynn.

I couldn’t disagree more with the other reviews. This book had me from the get go. I didn’t find the reader difficult to understand nor did I find the characters hard to follow. One review found it frustrating that there were nods at racial disparities. While the author did weave this into the story, it was appropriate to the situation and never overblown. In addition to race, the author touches on mental health, gender and sexual biases. But, again, these were mentioned when appropriate. I never felt the book was pushing a political agenda.
Thankful for an entertaining and suspenseful read! Perfect pallet cleanser.
