About this listen

Imprisoned for a crime he did not commit, Edmond Dantes is sent to the remote Chateau D'If to rot in a cell for his remaining days. But when he learns from a fellow prisoner that a valuable treasure is hidden on the Isle of Monte Cristo, Dantes becomes determined to escape, lay hands upon the treasure and then exact his revenge on the three men who sent him to die in prison.

From the author of The Three Musketeers comes the ultimate tale of injustice and retribution from the greatest adventure writer in history. It is presented here as it was originally serialized in the 1840's by Alexandre Dumas Père.

The Count of Monte-Cristo is an adventure novel and one of the author's most popular works. He completed the work in 1844. The story takes place in France, Italy, islands in the Mediterranean and in the Levant during the historical events of 1815-1838 (from just before the Hundred Days to the reign of Louis-Philippe of France). It deals with themes of hope, justice, vengeance, mercy and forgiveness. The book is considered a literary classic today.
