Publisher's summary

Emma Chase, New York Times best-selling author of the Tangled series, returns with the second installment of the Legal Briefs series!

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you're a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating - and that suits me just fine. In fact it's necessary when I'm breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don't work for me - I'm a "need to know" type of man. If you're my client, tell me the basic facts. If you're my date, stick to what will get you off. I'm not a therapist or Prince Charming - and I don't pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, and the emergency room and am knee deep in a damn compost pit.

Chelsea's too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she's not. She needs someone to help her and defend her - and the kids.

And that - that I know how to do.

A brilliant read

What did you love best about Sustained?

Their relationship

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

I don't give out many 5/5 stars but this book is brilliant, Jake Becker is a hot, funny, alpha male who makes a fantastic romantic partner for Chelsea Mcquade and her large family, the story line is warm and compelling, the sex is hot and it's narrated by Sebastian York what more could you ever want in a book I cannot wait for the next installment, this is absolutely a must read.

Sweet, Heart Warming, Hot & Laugh out loud funny!

I've listened to this entire series a couple times. Emma Chase is alway an auto purchase for me. This book is my favorite of the 3 in the Legal Briefs series and has one of my FAVORITE cast of characters. There are so many laugh out loud funny parts in this book! I can't say enough about Sebastian York's narration, we all know he does great Alpha male voices, but he is outstanding in this book.. Lost count at like 15 different narrated characters & 5 of them are kids! The relationship build between the main characters was well paced, not rushed or insta-love, but when it did happen it was hot!!! The story is told from Jakes point of view so while there isn't an insta-love you know from the beginning that he finds Chelsea attractive. The reader also gets Jake's take on all the kids and their antics, which is part of the hilarity!!! This is stand alone, but you do get to see characters from the 1st book in the series. Not a cliff hanger. ** this is totally a honest review in exchange for my paid for copy ;) 😉

Good story.

I enjoyed the way the author made six kids jump from the page. With so many characters it's got to be hard to make them all memorable but she pulled it off! And of course, Sebastian's narration is awesome and sexy.

Loved it

Perfect blend of reality, laughter and passion. Highly recommend this book. I usually just listen in the car. Found myself carrying the Kindle around the house, not wanting to miss the next moment.

YES!!! Great listen.

CONFESSION, I HAD AN EGALLEY VIA NETGALLEY TO READ BUT I GOT BEHIND ON MY READING AND WHEN I SAW SEBASTIAN YORK WAS THE NARRATOR I BOUGHT THE AUDIO OF SUSTAINED. I. HAD. TO.

While I enjoyed the first book in the series, I wasn’t wow’d by Overruled. But with Sustained, The Legal Briefs series has hit the sweet spot with the second installment.

Fans of Drew Evans in Chase’s Tangled series are going to LOVE Jake. Much like Drew, Jack throws women away like used tissues. He doesn’t do repeats or relationships. He’s always honest and up front with them.

“I’m going for a run. There’s coffee in the pot and cab money on the front table. You don’t need to be here when I get back.”

Plump lips – that were delightfully stretched around my cock last night – now from an unhappy pout. “You don’t have to be an asshole.”

I shrug. “I don’t have to be . . . it’s just easier that way.”

Warning! Do not listen to Sustained while eating pudding! I’ve not laughed so hard while listening to a book in a while and I almost snorted butterscotch pudding through my nose twice.

It’s like that fat-suit Gwyneth Paltrow movie a few years back. Now she’s hot . . . now she’s not.

“And then I said, that’s above my pay grade!”

Squeak-snort.

Squeak-snort.

Squeak-snort.

Oh go. Please, stop talking.

I try to block it out. To focus on the important things – like the round fullness of her tits straining against her beige sweater. […]

And there’s spinach in her teeth. Or arugula, maybe.

My dick hangs his head.
Now you might think that scene makes Jake sound like an ass, well he is. But to hear Sebastian York deliver those cocky, asshole lines is pure perfection. Jake is one of those characters that we hate to love and love to hate. And York is a master at voicing those kind of characters. If a voice could have a swagger, Sebastian has the biggest swagger due to the huge balls he has. LOL Well maybe not his balls but some of the characters he voices like Jake in Sustained. He also pulls over the kid voices well too. He’s female voices aren’t the best but he’s voice is so deep that you can’t really expect him to get it high enough for a great female voice and that’s ok because he’s Sebastian FREAKING York.

Jake’s life changes after he takes his 9 year old mugger home and means the kid’s guardian, Chelsea. She’s beautiful, warm and funny. And of course Jake can’t think of nothing but getting into her panties. But when he meets all six of Chelsea’s nieces and nephews, Jake’s plans are sidelined.

Jake takes an interest in Rory (his mugger), he sees himself in the 9 year old. Jake was punk when he was younger and with a judge takes him under his wing Jake straightens his life out and becomes the successful lawyer he is today.

We get to see that Jake has a heart under his man-whoring ways. Every Sunday he visited the judge that was like a father to him in the nursing home even though most of the time the judge doesn’t remember who Jake is. So you see Jake might be an asshole, but he has a good heart and Chelsea and her bunch of kiddos worms their way into his heart and Jake becomes the family man he never wanted to be.

Sustained has it all, laughs, sexy times, sad times and feel good moments. All romance readers will enjoy Chelsea and Jake’s HEA. Highly recommend Sustained by Emma Chase on audio! And fans of Christina Lauren and Alice Clayton will love Emma Chase. Sustained can be read as a stand alone even though the first couple shows up you won’t feel lost.

Another Great Story by Emma Chase!

Sustained by Emma Chase (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Sebastian York
Legal Breifs #2

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ This book was recommended to me and I am glad I picked it up. Jake likes to think he is such a badass…. I mean, he is… except when it comes to Chelsea and her bunch of rascals. With them, he just seems to melt into a big softie. He was always there for them when needed. The kids trusted and cared for him and he made sure they felt safe and happy. Which I loved. The way Jake handles the situations he found himself in were often laugh out loud funny. Although I haven’t read the first book in this series.. I may just go back and take a listen now!

Sebastian York did a fantastic job reading this book. I will be adding him to my list of favourite Narrators!

Must like romance with kids

Chelsea leaves grad school to become the guardian of her six nieces and nephews after a tragic car accident kills her beloved brother and sister-law. Jake is an attorney who becomes entangled with the family and is drawn into their chaotically charming household. Jake never pictured himself as a family man, but Chelsea and her charges need him and he can’t help but be attracted to Chelsea. There is quite a bit of push and pull in their relationship, but the children and their needs always come first. The entire book is told from Jake’s perspective and wonderfully narrated by Sebastian York.
