About this listen

Kyle Sterling is Emmy's boss and the biggest jerk she knows. He's abrasive, uptight, and selfish.

When Emmy sleeps with Kyle after a night of drinking, she quickly tries to put the mistake behind her. When the duo is snowed in together over a long weekend, Emmy begins to discover there is more to Kyle than his mean-spirited behavior. Unfortunately, Kyle has a steady girlfriend he is unwilling to break up with.

Moving on and putting that long weekend behind her, Emmy starts dating attorney Luke Kessler. Luke treats Emmy with kindness, reverence, and loves her unconditionally. He is everything Emmy should ever want in a man - sexy, intelligent, successful, and funny, with strong family bonds. He is definitely everything her loudmouthed, overly opinionated mother could ever want for her. Even as their relationship takes off, Emmy is finding Kyle hard to shake. He aggressively pursues her, blatant in his feelings and desire for her.

When Emmy succumbs to her hidden feelings for Kyle without setting Luke free, devastating consequences ensue. Addicted to Kyle, unable to purge him from her life, Emmy's once easygoing life is now on a path of destruction. Will she let go of this man before it's too late? Is Luke's love truly unconditional? Will Emmy ever recover from accidentally-on-purpose falling for two men at the same time?

A Love Triangle That Frustrates You

I was frustrated listening to the book. I at times I really liked it but other times I wanted to yell at them. Emmy is in love with two men, Luke and Kyle. Of course one is the nice guy and the other a jerk. This book made my emotions swirl. I was mad, frustrated and sad for Emmy. She just could not get her head screwed on straight. At one point I thought ok she gets it and then she flip flops a bit and I wanted to scream. I definitely liked the book because it was different. You have to be able to get past the cheating in order to enjoy the story. (that part frustrated me a bit) I also did not like this narrator. It was very difficult to know who was speaking because her male and female voices were all the same. This sometimes caused confusion if you were not paying close attention. Her female voice was ok but not one of my favourites. I would says this book is different enough to not be bad and keeps your interest throughout.

Two thumbs up!!

This book actually turned out to be better than I thought it would...It made me laugh, eventually cry....I wasn’t always able to relate with the main character because I’ve never been in love with 2 men, but still it was nice to read about a woman’s perspective on this. I really loved Luke, from the beginning....I felt the lead just had to stop getting in her own way and mature...

Unexpected

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No. Simply because it dealt with way too many themes. I felt very overwhelmed after reading novel. I'm glad it had a happy ending but I think it could have gotten there without the meth and abusive weird relationship.

Excellent Story

Emmy falls for two men. These men are entirely different. I enjoyed this book because it's so real to life. You can love someone that is totally bad for you. The sexual situations are very mild, but this book covers very adult situations that many face in their life. It's a book worthy of a credit.

Love Triangle at It's Best

If you could sum up Accidentally on Purpose in three words, what would they be?

Emotional, Angsty, Rollercoaster!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely! I just could not put this down. I lost plenty sleep but it was worth it!

Any additional comments?

I loved this book! To sum it up, Emmy runs into her dick of a boss, Kyle, at a bar and hook up. And that is where the fun begins! Kyle and Emmy pursue a relationship but Kyle already has a serious girlfriend and can't break up with her. Emmy gets fed up after a while and tries to move on with another hot guy at her office, Luke. He's had the hots for Emmy for a very, very, long time. Emmy loves both men and despite the circumstances she tries to balance both guys for a while and this takes a toll on her. There were some hilarious moments as well as gut wrenching moments. If you love roller coasters, you will love this book!

Glazed Love

I read this book back when it came out, but listening to it brought a whole different feeling to it. Emmie and Kyle were so wrong for each other given the toxins they consumed to have the spark they got from one another. I honestly felt Kyle did love Emmie and what she gave him. Enter Luke....woah that guy was it. Hands down had it together and showed Emmie a different world than what she had. And it had nothing to do with money. So looking forward the next book!

Not Bad Writing, But NOT for Me

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, no I would not- unless I knew they adored 'cheating' romances. I also have no intention of ever listening to this book ever again.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

There are moments that I connected, and I was drawn into the book- but it's more like a car wreck you can't help but drive slowly and gawk at. The timeline bounces around, so part of the 'end' isn't really even the 'end'... I've read other books that use this technique that I liked but I feel it wasn't necessary in this case. I feel keeping some of the major revelations within the time frame that they happened would not have negatively impacted the narrative.

Did Serena Daniels do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

There were some conversations I had trouble following. I don't feel the narrator separated the voices for Kyle, Em, or Luke enough (in some instances, at least) and I was left confused. 'Who said that? Who is talking right now?' ran across my thoughts more than once.

Her voice 'worked' for the main character, and she was easy to listen to overall, but Serena being the narrator didn't help the book either. Some books, even if I'm not completely won over by the story- I'll be won over by the narration. Not so in this case. She wasn't 'bad' but was far from 'great'

What would have made this romance irresistible?

Umm... I don't know that there was anything that could be done to 'fix' this. I just didn't care for the characters or the story. I was frustrated a majority of the time I listened. So... I guess the only way it could be irresistible is to pick a different book?

Any additional comments?

Just when I think I can like different characters for different reasons... *Gah* I can't even properly communicate this. OK- there is a quote in the book, where one character calls another a "dirty penis head". Well... for me, everyone, and I do mean everyone (yes, Luke too) is a "dirty penis head" in this book. I know I'm probably going to have some hardcore Luke lovers going after me on this- but I call them like I see them, and even he became a douchebag more than once. Repeatedly.

Weak Lead Character

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The lead character became annoying with her perpetual weaknesses.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Luke was a great character, one that you wanted to root for the entire book. The story was a bit weak.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance was very average. Not memorable, but did not detract terribly from the book.

Could you see Accidentally on Purpose being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

NO!!!

Worth a Reread

Reread this series! This book made me remember how much I love Emmy, even though I wanted to punch her ass in the face during majority of the book. I laughed, cried, and blushed (under my brown skin) while reading in public. The characters in LD Davis' novels always make you want to just get thru ur daily tasks so you can hurry and return to your book. I didnt expect to feel this way with a book I've already read, however Emmy, Luke, and Kyle wouldn't let me go. I'll more than likely reread it in another couple of years to relive the awesomeness.
