Publisher's summary

In Sky Magic, the second book of the Haven Series, the Pact that has kept the peace for centuries between humanity and the Faerie is broken. Oberon, King of the Faerie, lost his Blue Jewel and can no longer command the marching Rainbow to keep the peace. Once again the darkest and most evil of his kind plague human lands. In defense of the Haven, a champion must be chosen to wield the Axe Ambros. A magical weapon powered by the legendary Amber Jewel, the eye of a long dead golden dragon, the Axe is difficult to master.

Waited too long to continue this series

I first listened to Book 1 several years back and liked it but held off continuing the series in hopes that it would be formatted to include WhisperSync. I finally decided the continue the series and decided to re-listen to Book 1, Amber Magic which was the final push for me to forego waiting any longer for WhisperSync and re-start the series. This series is the most pure fantasy series that I've found from B. V. Larson and it very much explores the various faerie types and their characteristics. There is excellent character development, ample intrigue, budding romantic elements and, of course, lots of gritty encounters and paced historical revelations between the various races and histories.

Mark Boyett's performance is 5-star, as one would expect.

Second book, same issues

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I might, the story is interesting but the same storyline issues occur.

Would you be willing to try another book from B. V. Larson? Why or why not?

Of course

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I'm usually hard on narrators because they can make or break a story. Mark actually brings a weaker storyline to life. So in my opinion instead of a bad narrator ruining a book, in this case Mark did the opposite and improved the story by his reading.

Did Sky Magic inspire you to do anything?

Not really

Any additional comments?

I suggest to those reading this book that the story concept is a good one, but go in understanding there might be a few storyline gaps that don't impact the over all story, but will be noticed.
