Publisher's summary

Jason Burke was a man hiding from himself in a small cabin high in the American Rocky Mountains when his simple, quiet life was shattered one night by what he first assumed was an aviation mishap. But when he investigates the crash, what he finds will yank him out of his self-imposed exile and thrust him into a world he could have never imagined. He suddenly finds himself trapped on a damaged alien spacecraft and plunged into a universe of interstellar crime lords and government conspiracies, along the way meeting strange new friends… and enemies. As he struggles to find his way back home he is inexorably drawn deeper into a world where one misstep could mean his death. Or worse. He desperately wants to get back to Earth, but it may be the end for him...or is it just the beginning?

Top Notch

What do you do when you're accidentally kidnapped from planet earth in a spaceship? Escape your captor, rescue people in trouble, and kick some ass along the way?

Yes, please!

This is one of my favorite science fiction series of all time. It's fun, witty, ridiculous, and the characters are absolutely fantastic.
Paul Heitsch delivers time and again in each book of this series. He is able to impart a distinct characteristic and tone of voice for each of the many different types of characters and peoples.
I sincerely hope to see many more books in this series for years to come.

This is a COOL book!

What did you like best about this story?

I really liked how everyone came together through circumstance and became a cohesive team. The author didn't waste time making a soap opera out of their interactions, though there was some tension between characters. I also very much liked the main character in his reasons for doing things and his sensibilities.

What does Paul Heitsch bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Paul Heitsch does a really good job of relating the story while giving just the right amount of emotional translation. He also really does a good job of representing the main character.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book had one character that I couldn't figure out if he would be a good guy or a bad guy. I alternated between hoping that the character would be one and the other. And waiting for that resolution really had me on the edge of my seat.

Any additional comments?

The author does a really great job of creating enjoyable characters, both on the protagonist and antagonist sides.

Great Story Telling!

Almost predictable at times, but still a fun read/listen and the sorry telling was superb! Narration was also excellent.

Fun and fast!

What a great find this was. This audiobook is a lot of fun while still creating a serious and carefully crafted story. It is filled with memorable and in some cases lovable characters and is chock full of witty charm that will literally have you smiling and rooting on the good guys.

Well this was a fun adventure!

Any additional comments?

I went into this story wishing hoping, and praying for this to be a fun action pact adventure sci-fi that's not ruined by the author writing in a romance for the main character. I'm just so sick of FM romances taking over a story creating an atmosphere of grown ups acting like horny teens.

Well, my wish, hopes, and prayers came true. Finally, a story full of all the action sci-fi a fan could ever want. And you know what? This story was even better because the focus was on point to the survival, unlikely friendship, and the adventures the newfound friendships will endure. Awesome story!

Utterly, completely derivative, yet still enjoyabl

Any additional comments?

There isn't anything, anyone, any how, or any why in this easy to read book you haven't seen before. I'm not going to even try to list a few as it is unnecessary. Still, like any episode of Star Trek, STNG, A-team, or Firefly episode is fun to watch, this book is fun to read (or listen to).

Great Start for a good author

It was actually funny, and really strong in terms of science and technology. Really believable how Jason reacts throughout the book. Just wish he'd add some people to the officer manifest!

If you like Guardians of the Galaxy

"I love it when a plan comes together" to paraphrase an old T.V. show! I liked it and think this author deserves a chance. He writes the stuff I like----- like the old Star wolves novels of which there are three--- that I fell in love with years ago. I think he is a developing writer and will get better with time. It makes me think I should go back to writing myself, but that is another story. But Hey, this is a new favorite series for me, and I will definitely get the next book. So good on to him and I will promote his book on facebook!

Very interesting and exciting parallels here.

This series storyline reminds me in many ways of the Mass Effect video game trilogy storyline. I find many parallels between the two. Both evoke a very compelling storyline of cooperation across a variety of diverse species in a space-faring environment. And the cooperation is for noble goals and the promotion of good over evil.
My assessment is not meant to take away from either storyline but to show the similarities between the two. There are so many similarities, in my view at least This author could have easily been the lead writer for the video game series.

Incidentally, this game series is arguably the most successful of all time and considered by many in the gaming community to be the gold standard for the RPG/FPS genre.
So far I am really enjoying this series and will purchase the entire series based on the first book.
