About this listen

"A must-buy where Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander is popular.”—Library Journal

From the glitz of LA to the mists of Scotland. Is it true love for Willa or just a Highland fling?

When the Big C takes her best friend too soon, Willa Jenkins struggles to recapture the joy in her life, and all she wants is to get away from LA’s glitzy party circuit. But superfan Valentina had other plans. For her final, wickedly funny act, she’s packing her bestie off on a two-week Outlander-themed experience at Balcraigie Castle, Scotland.

Expecting a couple of weeks with Valentina’s hot brother Gabe, Willa gets more than she bargained for when she’s put to work doing actual, real-life farm work. Not only that, but to get the ‘full’ experience, she’s paired up with the irritating—and irritatingly sexy—Finn, with whom she will pose as fake husband and wife for the next two weeks.

Willa despairs of Valentina’s terrible trick. But then she makes a discovery. Finn’s family might just lose the castle if they can’t make the experience worthwhile for the other attendees. The stakes are high, but as the days pass and the fake marriage she signed up for starts to feel all too real, could Willa be in for a prize of a different kind…love?

Critic reviews

“McClure has successfully created layered characters and adds a lot of sly laughs and inside Outlander jokes that will keep readers entertained, and the happily-ever-after ending will leave readers satisfied. A must-buy where Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander is popular.”Library Journal

Fun and made me feel good

I was there, outdoors and laughing with the characters. The foods, the events and the chores! All had charm and fun twined throughout.

Slow

The flow of the story is slow, although it’s a ok story. There is quite a bit of story before the Scottish parts start at chapter 11. The LA movie star references were annoying. I think younger reader (20-30’s) would enjoy the story much more than myself, at 54.

Funny and Uplifting

I bought this book because I am a huge Amanda Ronconi fan and wasn't sure what to expect. This is a great story that will make you laugh, cry and uplift you all at the same time. If you love romance stories - you won't be disappointed! In fact, when I told my best friend about this book, she checked it out and ended up buying it, too!

The humor was just what I needed!!

Loved everything about this book except that it ended!! I loved the Outlander references, and the characters made me miss the Scots!

Sweet

Book was funny, sad at times, and sweet. Who doesn't love Scots and their accents.

Hilarious and real, with a dash of Outlander themed romance.

Loved the story, especially the theme of wanting to leave home to prove yourself yet still finding a longing for the familiar. She easily sees beauty in the rural life when it’s not the one she grew up in, and I felt that same way in my youth.
Also, if you (like me) cannot get enough of men with Scottish accents then you really must listen to the Audible version for full effect!

Fun romantic comedy

I enjoyed the story, setting, characters and underlying messages. The undertone of sadness due to loss was prevalent but was a great motivation to continue reading.

not my jam

Finn & Willa: TRIGGERS: cancer and coming out. This book had so much potential but it just dragged on and on. It took forever to get to what the story was about. And it's also an extremely slow burn. Like slow as molasses and not in a good way. I loved the concept and the story got better towards the end but it wasn't worth the almost 11 hours of reading. I love Highlander books and books set in Ireland/Scotland but this one is not a good one for me. There's no ❤️‍🔥 with this book. It's a very Hallmark movie vibe.

Terribly long winded details

Terribly long winded details. It took our heroine many many sentences and paragraphs to explain a choice. Entirely too long, the book could have been read in 4 hours not the 10+. The story could have been great.
