Publisher's summary
Months ago, the world ended when an unknown virus spread throughout North America and then the world, killing millions of people. However, that is where the horror only started. The dead began to rise, and when they rose, they had an insatiable appetite for the living. A new hell had been unleashed on earth and the fight for survival had just begun.
Sadie Walker is one of the survivors in this new world. Living in north Seattle behind barriers that keep the living in and the dead out, she trying to get back to a normal life, while raising her eight-year-old nephew - if anyone even knows what “normal” is anymore. Then everything goes sideways when Shane is kidnapped by a group of black-market thieves; they bring down a crucial barrier in the city while trying to escape and flood the city with the walking dead.
After rescuing her nephew, Sadie and Shane escape Seattle on the last remaining boat, along with other survivors. However, now they must face the complete chaos of a world filled with flesh-eating zombies and humans who are playing with a whole new rule book when it comes to survival in their journey to find a new place that they can call home.

Story
In the wake of the cataclysmic events that reshaped our world in 2020, a sense of relief washed over us all. By late 2023, I think we were ready to just live life again. I know I was. It was a time to make new friends and put the past to rest. Rayne and I hadn’t known each other long, but we were building a solid friendship, nothing more. It was our common interests that sent us on vacation together to my remote cabin. What we didn’t, couldn’t know, was that we were on a collision course with the end of the world as we knew it.

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

In the blink of an eye, everyone disappears. Gone. Except for the young. There are teens, but not one single adult. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no Internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened. Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents - unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers - that grow stronger by the day. It's a terrifying new world.

For Meredith Gale, ending her life seems like her only choice, and that choice is the reason she’s dangling by her fingertips from a bridge high above the freezing water of the San Francisco Bay. But someone or some thing has other plans for Meredith, and as her fingers slip from the cold steel of the bridge, a disembodied voice asks her a simple question: “Candidate 13: Do you wish to be saved?” Realizing her mistake too late, Meredith screams “Yes!” and instantly finds herself transported to a mysterious island, alongside hundreds of other Candidates like her.

The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the 21st century: They are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction.

Story
Matheus Taylor didn't ask to be murdered. To be fair, the percentage of people actually asking to be murdered is probably small enough to be safely ignored, but he felt it was worth stating regardless. His life might have been ordinary, but it was his life and he wasn't done with it yet. Quin didn't care. A 1,700-year-old Roman, Quintus Livius Saturnius had a different view of morality than most people. Killing Matheus and hijacking his undead existence seemed perfectly acceptable to him.

Strange things are happening in Maya's tiny Vancouver Island town. First, her friend Serena, the captain of the swim team, drowns mysteriously in the middle of a calm lake. Then, one year later, mountain lions are spotted rather frequently around Maya's home and her reactions to them are somewhat . . . unexpected. Her best friend, Daniel, has also been experiencing unexplainable premonitions about certain people and situations.

"We'd had to be cut free of our mother's womb. Abby and I were fused, you see. But here's the real kicker; Abby had the magic, I didn't." Now adults, Makeda and Abby still share their childhood home. The surgery to separate the two girls left Makeda with what feels like an even worse deformity: no mojo. Another interesting zombie novel by Madeleine Roux
What did you love best about Sadie Walker Is Stranded?
I like it because it follows a theme starting with Allison Hewitt is Trapped. It's by the same author that wrote that book. I am certainly looking forward to Madeleine's next book, if she should decide to write one.
What other book might you compare Sadie Walker Is Stranded to and why?
Allison Hewitt is Trapped. Sadie Walker is stranded ties itself into the Allison Hewitt book.
Which character – as performed by Jessica Almasy – was your favorite?
Why Sadie Walker, of course.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I could have.
Any additional comments?
I liked the narrator of this book, but not as much as I did Allison Hewitt. Still, once you listen for a while, her voice kind of grows on you.

Pretty good
Would you try another book from Madeleine Roux and/or Jessica Almasy?
Yes
Would you recommend Sadie Walker Is Stranded to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes, but letting them know it does a whole lot of back story and setting things up before it gets to the real zombie action
Could you see Sadie Walker Is Stranded being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Yes I could see that. Sadie should be played by someone like Rachel Bilson, or Erica Durrance of Smallville fame.

Poor Follow-Up
Would you ever listen to anything by Madeleine Roux again?
Yes, liked the first book, but not this one
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jessica Almasy?
No
Any additional comments?
I was disappointed in this follow-up to a solid first book. The story didn't really have the same feel as the first and went downhill fast. Lots of cliches and impossible coincidences. Didn't care for the overly perky narration.

What did you like best about Sadie Walker Is Stranded? What did you like least?
reader
Any additional comments?
Its really hard to hear a 12/13 year old talk about adult things. I couldn't get into the book because of the valley girl cheerleader reading this. the b's and p's are killing me!

Disappointment
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I enjoyed the first book in this series and was very eager to read this second installment. The story was fine until Sadie started getting so paranoid that she did not trust anyone and started accusing everyone of things they didn't do.
What was most disappointing about Madeleine Roux’s story?
It could have been a good zombie/mystery book, but the main character was just not very likable at all. She kept proclaiming that she wanted to think the best of everyone and trust everyone, but she didn't trust anyone at all. I can't believe anyone had anything to do with her during the last couple of hours of the book.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jessica Almasy?
I don't know. I've listened to other books she has narrated and did not really like her narration of those either.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The story started out fine and the general idea of a murder mystery and zombie apocalypse is pretty interesting, but this one just fell short.

Language language everywhere
What did you like best about Sadie Walker Is Stranded? What did you like least?
This book definitely has a lot of references to sex (because apparently if you aren't getting attacked by zombies that's all you think of- or talk about). And a ton of f-bombs that make listening to it- unpleasant to say the least. The story could have been chopped in half and left out all the gritty details of wondering minds and would have been much better for it. I prefer less swearing and more story.
Any additional comments?
If you want a zombie story that doesn't have a bunch a swearing and sick mental pictures…. don't listen to this story. Just don't.

PERKY MUCH??
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Teens who are looking for 'cute' books
Has Sadie Walker Is Stranded turned you off from other books in this genre?
Just the author and reader
Would you be willing to try another one of Jessica Almasy’s performances?
Nope.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
A big cringe and sorrow over wasted money
Any additional comments?
When I think of Zombies, I'm looking for horror and action
