About this listen

Gorgeous 20-year-old Jessamine Harper faces the retribution of an angry government bent on stopping her suffrage writings. The rugged Bethesda Janes, a metalsmith hiding his Jewish heritage and his heartbreaking past, falls in love with the beauty, intelligence, and caring heart he finds in Jess. From urban St. Louis to the prairie and mountains of 1887 Montana Territory, intrigue, jealousy, and ambition bring Jess, Bethesda, and a determined government agent to a dramatic stand-off.

Now the adventure and romance continue with the trials and triumphs of Jessamine, the tomboyish, activist middle Harper sister, in Rebel Love Song.

Rebel Love Song was previously published as a Montana Sky Kindle World book.

Loved it!

Louella has written a story that was powerful! We forget sometimes how women years ago were treated. Even today I am sure some are still treated poorly. What a wonderful emotional story this was.
Mary did a great job narrating it. She brought to life the characters.

Romance and Adventure

Jessamine Harper is a suffragette residing in Montana Territory around 1887. Always a tomboy and an accomplished writer on the suffrage movement, Jessamine comes to the attention of a government agent who despises her beliefs and sets out to undermine and destroy her. While being persecuted by the agent, Jessamine discovers that Bethesda Janes has several secrets – his heritage and past and his love for her! Together they face the obstacles life throws at them.

Louella Nelson, the author, does an impressive job researching and providing insight into the thinking of the movement and accurately reflects the actions and beliefs of society during that time. The plot and twists were well done. Her writing style allows the listener to blend into the story. Her characters were well-developed and fit into the story well. A creative storyteller, Nelson uses vivid details to weave a solid romance and historical details about the movement to enrich the characters.

The performance of the narrator, Mary Castillo, was smooth and clear. Her voices resonated with the listener as they were passionate, steady, and genuine reflecting the appropriate amount of emotion. She moved the story forward with her narration.

A good book that plays on the heartstrings of the listener from the romantic aspect to the rights of women.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook, it was clear and well produced.

Rebel Love Song

The love story between Jessamine and Bethesda confused me.
Almost immediately, Bethesda assumed that a letter that Jessamine had was correspondence between her and a man? His bias was never explained. Even after they had shared a kiss, he believed that she was writing to men. While believing that she was devious, he purchased her a gift and was dreaming of a future with her?! Jessamine went from kissing Bethesda, to ignoring him, to pining for him?! I was truly baffled about these two for most of the story.

The suffragette portion of the story and revisiting the Morgan's were what held
my interest.

Those of us living in a first world country, can often forget the battles women
had to fight so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. Freedoms that women
around the world are still fighting for....

The narrator did a wonderful job bringing the charaters to life.
