Publisher's summary

A leading light on the alternative and indie music scene for nearly 40 years, Jeff Tweedy is a master of the art in the artifice of songwriting. In this volume, Tweedy introduces listeners to the people, occasions, and frames of mind that have inspired but don’t necessarily populate the iconic songbooks of bands Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, and Tweedy.

These are his Words + Music.

As a perfect accompaniment to his acclaimed books—Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back) and How to Write One Song—this singular special edition of Jeff Tweedy’s body of work fills in the little or unknown moments and motivations that sustain a life at the intersection of creativity and authenticity.

Fans of Jeff Tweedy will be delighted with 10 new, full renditions of catalog favorites: “Jesus, Etc.”, “She’s a Jar”, “Please Tell My Brother”, and many more, which punctuate the personal, revelatory storytelling of one of the most impactful singer-songwriters in American music.

An examined life

In this audio book I got to be introduced to a musician that I hadn’t known about. Jeff did a good job of talking about the circumstances of his life that formed his music. I enjoyed hearing his music also.

Not even a Wilco fan, might be now, this was great!

I’ve been listening to this whole series, I love the storytelling around the music, and the intimate “an evening with…” kind of vibes the series creates. I entered into this one recognizing Jeff Tweedy’s name but not really knowing where I knee his name from and a few minutes in mentioning uncle Tupelo and Wilco, I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this one. Turns out, this one is at the top of my list of favorites, I love the insights Jeff Tweedy communicates in it, and his ability to tell about the key points in his life that brought him to where he is today. I will listen to this again (I never repeat listen). Seriously makes me want to find Wilco songs I like, Thanks so much for putting this out into the world!

Excellent

Tweedy tells a few stories not in books. Cool to hear about pandemic sessions at home. Very enjoyable.

Feels like listening to a friend

I loved this from start to finish and only wish there was more!! My husband and I say Wilco is the soundtrack of our relationship and this felt like listening to a good friend (hope that's not too creepy!).

Growing up with Jeff

Wonderfully intimate and engaging. Jeff is a gift to those seeking their own creativity, those nursing wounds, and those who appreciate open and honest storytelling.

Great (as always)

Tweedy is open and honest, sarcastic and funny. Listening is the way to go with any of his “books” as he narrates them all. The air quotes used previously are to make clear that this is more of a conversation than anything. In fact, I am fairly certain that none of it was scripted. He’s got a lot to share.

I absolutely adore Jeffy!

This “book” is delightful and I couldn’t get enough. Seriously, I want more of this. I love the conversational tone of it, it is almost like sitting in a coffee shop with a dear friend. Again, this girl was reminded of what a remarkable person he is. I could gush and go on forever about my love and admiration of his soul, wisdom, and guidance on what it means to be a good human.
