About this listen

The explosive memoir of an FBI field operative who has worked more undercover cases than anyone in history

Within FBI field operative circles, groups of people known as “Special” by their titles alone, Michael R. McGowan is an outlier. Ten percent of FBI Special Agents are trained and certified to work undercover. A quarter of those agents have worked more than one undercover assignment in their careers. And of those, less than 10 percent of them have been involved in more than five undercover cases. Over the course of his career, McGowan has worked more than 50 undercover cases.

In this extraordinary and unprecedented book, McGowan will take listeners through some of his biggest cases, from international drug busts to the Russian and Italian mobs to biker gangs and contract killers to corrupt unions and SWAT work. Ghost is an unparalleled view into how the FBI, through the courage of its undercover Special Agents, nails the bad guys. McGowan infiltrates groups at home and abroad, assembles teams to create the myths he lives, concocts fake businesses, coordinates the busts, and helps carry out the arrests. Along the way, we meet his partners and colleagues at the FBI, who pull together for everything from bank jobs to the Boston Marathon bombing case, mafia dons, and, perhaps, most significantly, El Chapo himself and his Sinaloa Cartel.

Ghost is the ultimate insider's account of one of the most iconic institutions of American government, and a testament to the incredible work of the FBI.

good memoir

this book was good show true side of being an agent for being a hero on one day and crap on the next. this book also shows the difference between policing 30 years ago and today and some of the differences. This guy's got some really cool experiences and stories.

Narration by the Macho Man- Randy Savage

Really enjoyed the book. Very interesting stories. However, the narrator speaks as if he's none other than the Macho Man- Randy Savage (YouTube him for an example). I wasn't a big fan of his performance but I got used to it. The author seems super full of himself but has put in the work to back it up. Kinda like Floyd Mayweather- super cocky, kinda douchy but can be given his accolades. He organized similar agents to make up his elite UCO task force which was ultimately terminated by top brass, likely because these cowboys had too much personality and were likely difficult to manage. The author obviously doesn't see it that way though. Good overall audiobook, the movie should be a good one.

Undercover Five O

To be honest this book did not blow my socks off. it was okay but nothing that I haven't heard before in an undercover book. Nevertheless, I thank Mr McGowan for his service to this country and doing his part to keep its citizens a little safer.

Good story, great performance

Mike Dawson was amazing, I would listen to almost that he reads.

The story was good and kept my attention. The author had a very interesting life and did a lot of good but has a very high opinion of himself which detracted a bit from the book.
