Publisher's summary

Libby Forest is hot on the trail of the killer when disaster strikes closer to home.

The sudden death of an elderly volunteer at Dunster Castle rocks the Castle’s ancient calm to its core leaving members of the local History Society devastated. When the finger is pointed at a fellow volunteer, his wife Margery fears her husband of forty years may be the killer.

Libby Forest, in partnership with Max Ramshore and their two much-loved dogs, Bear and Shipley are determined to find the castle killer – no matter who it may be.

Quirky characters, dogs, cake and gossip abound in this Exham-on-Sea Murder Mystery, set in a charming English seaside town of Exham-on-Sea - a book for listeners who love Agatha Christie-style murder mysteries, cosy crime, dogs, cake and chocolate.

Cosy crime and likeable characters

This is my first book of this series, I know it isn't story 1, but since it was included in my Audible, I downloaded to have a listen. I really enjoyed the story and narration. The pace of story was perfect for me, and the plot was a relaxing type, kept one wondering whodunit yet not heart pounding. I like Libby and the supporting casts . The narrator had a nice soothing voice to match the characters and story. I will be getting book 1 to start this series.

Basic cozy mystery

This was a basic cozy murder mystery with a little dog kidnapping on the side. Good characters and decent plot. All the pieces tied up in the end.

Just ok

Pleasant enough story but it was a bit hard to follow. I tried going back once the killer was revealed to see where I failed to pick up clues. I couldn’t find the threads. So the big reveal was a bit of a surprise. I agree with others that the motive is a bit thin. I did like the narrator although I found it difficult to distinguish all the voices. If it wasn’t included in plus catalog I would have considered a return. I will read the next plus catalog addition to see if i can get closer to the characters.

Strevens' reading compliments Evesham's writing!

Strevens' reading brought the characters in the book to life. I really enjoyed it! I've been reading this series in order on Audible. This is the best I've read due to the reading.

Truly English

Nice quietly English mystery. Just the thing for bedtime reading. Liked the village characters and had no idea who the murderer was until he was revealed.

Enjoyable

This checked the basic mystery boxes. I hated the ending boring and out dated. Also very American ending? Hmmm targeting the USA?

Pretty good story, clean and sweet

It did take a few attempts to get into the story, but once I did, I really liked the storyline. The characters are cute and sweet and very endearing.
