About this listen

Five months to Titan. Four brave crew members. One incredible mystery.

Jeff Dolan always wanted to be an astronaut. After helping a private space company build a ship that can travel to Saturn's largest moon in five months, he gets his chance.

Shortly after launch, a devastating malfunction forces Jeff and the crew to make a choice: continue to Titan or go back home. As the truth about their mission unravels, one thing is clear: Someone on Earth knew about the system flaw and covered it up.

Yet surviving the journey isn't the crew's only concern. Even if they make it to Titan, they will face another problem: Something is already there.

Fans of thoughtful space exploration science fiction will enjoy this near-Earth first-contact adventure. This is the first book in the Titan Chronicles, a thrilling addition to space-travel fiction.

Captivating story

This was a very captivating and enjoyable book. The mission seen through Jeff's point of the story was very interesting. As the story unfolded different aspects and layers were revealed. I can't wait to read book 2 in the series!

Poor Audio, Depressing story.

Story felt fairly negative, somewhat depressing... Sound tech did not normalize narration. Volume constantly at a low whisper transitioning to a loud yell. Really bad and difficult to listen to in a car or any other setting with any background noise. Couldn't even hear some of the whisper. Listen to it in isolated quiet room...

Not Outstanding. Easy listen

I’m not going to follow up on the following volumes. Samuel Best is a good writer but this book did not break any patterns.

Great space adventure

Suspense and action... great. There are unknowns, eventually revealed, that add to the suspense and awe of space discoveries and the risk thereof.

Wow - a new propulsion method

A great space story. A crew of four head to Titan, one of moons of Saturn. They are using a new propulsion system that gets them to Titan in less than half the time as the normal method.

Half way there is a malfunction that gets the ship to their destination even faster. They discover another ship had already beat them and an artifact believed to be from another place in space.

The rest of the story is about the crew’s encounters with the other vehicles and each of the crew member’s way of dealing with the situations they encounter.

Great book for people interested in space travel.

Pretty solid science fiction

The author seems to improve as the story carries on.

At the start, it's mostly exposition--and dry at that. But by the end the story line is driving pretty well. Some of the big reveals feel really rushed, but--being generous--that might be intentional, with the author wanting to convey what a barrage of newness might feel like to the characters experiencing it. Or, it might be just a pacing problem; you decide.

Not stunning, but worth a listen.

A little tech but good story

It is a little tech heavy. But still not exhaustive and very interesting. Nice play pretty decent characters for this type of sci fi.

Titan Chronicles Series

Plot. Throughout the three-book series, we're dealing with an alien entity whose objectives aren't obvious, at least to this writer. There is a slew of techno-babble that will either delight or frustrate the space fans among us - mostly frustrate. It's not simply a space opera - but also includes sabotage and corporate espionage - and a bit of romance. But ... it's never clear exactly what the aliens want besides a moon of Jupiter, Titan, or the planet Venus. Do the aliens want to be friends? You'll never know - at least, I couldn't tell. Throw in the annihilation of mankind because of comets/meteors. Wait...what? Aliens AND meteors?

Liked. No sex, no offensive language, clean reads. Narration is fine; no trouble discerning who is speaking to whom. Bumped the speed to 1.5.

Not so hot. Holes in the story - lots - unnecessary subplots and characters. Needs a story editor.

Written by Samuel Best and narrated by Jonathan Davis. Each story is in the area of 10 hours of listening in unabridged audiobook format, released from March 2022 through August 2022 by Podium Audio.
