About this listen

A terrible discovery. A secret that could destroy human civilization. A desperate escape to the most dangerous planet in the universe - Earth.

Two hundred years ago, a fleet of colony ships left Earth and started a settlement on Proxima Centauri.

Centurion Space Force pilot Nathan Stacker didn't expect to return home to find his wife dead. He didn't expect the murderer to look just like him, and he definitely didn't expect to be the one to take the blame. But his wife had control of a powerful secret. A secret that stretches across the light years between two worlds and could lead to the end of both.

Now that secret is in Nathan's hands, and he's about to make the most desperate evasive maneuver of his life - stealing a starship and setting a course for Earth. He thinks he'll be safe there. He's wrong. Very wrong.

Earth is nothing like what he expected. Not even close. What he doesn't know is not only likely to kill him, it's eager to kill him, and even if it doesn't?

The Sheriff will.

Surprisingly excellent!

I love Forbes Devils Rejects series. I just started this series having gotten this book months ago. I’m blown away! It starts a bit slow, once going, it’s originality, humanity, and reality within its own world setting is spectacular. What made it best for me was the wonderful reading by the narrator. He didn’t do voices much, but really had the perfect voice to give suspense and fierce passion to all the characters and why they did what they did from all sides. Well done M. R. Forbes! Now onto the next book…

Mass Demons

I enjoyed the story until we had massed demons attacking in unbeatable numbers. if it is not fat lipped sucker zombies it may be unrelenting frogs or in this case soft shelled camen. Davis is one of my favorite readers he has a great gift for expressing the correct amount of emotion for the situation. He also has multiple voices and usually remembers who's voice belongs to whom. l will buy the next book because I like the concept. Over all the book is enjoyable.

a tumb and a half up.

I like this story and performance. What I didn't like or understand. was in the first trilogy it said 396 years had past. But in this book it kept saying 200 years.

Not bad but not great ps spoiler ish

Feels like a blend of a few action books and some parts should have more detail like on character building.
My main personal issue was the sharif using “paws” or “pause” as the ok or acknowledgment it’s dumb

“Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen, it's not going to happen”
Mean girls

Excellent series opener!

I have never been disappointed in anything I have read by M.R. Forbes! This fast paced, tightly written story is magnificent! Love me my Sherrif Duke!

The characters are amazing. Their interactions are splendid, and the dialog believable based on the characters themselves.

The situation Earth is in is dramatic and fraught with difficulties. Survivors and visitors to the planet must literally fight to stay alive. Engineered creatures roam the earth in thick and fierce droves. Their mindless call is to kill all humans!

Jonathan Davis' narration is fabulous. He adds much to the story with his deep voice and animated vocals.

You just can't lose with this book or any book by M.R. Forbes! Read on or listen on! You won't be disappointed!

A pleasant Surprise

I was unaware of the connection to the previous trilogy of books when I made the purchase so I was surprised when Sherriff Hayden showed up. It was an interesting book, a good sequel and I look forward to more.
