About this listen

From the ashes of the ancients, a cataclysmic new threat rises.

Born on a forsaken desert planet, Cole Shaw has two options - perish from starvation and disease, or enlist in the New World Republic’s armed forces. He chooses the military. For the first time, he thinks he has a shot at a better life. But survival is not guaranteed.

Leading an elite team of mech operators, he is deployed to a frozen planet called Ferrous where dangerous relics of a past war lurk beneath the ice and savage creatures prowl the barren wastelands. Scientists on Ferrous are chasing rumors of godlike technologies buried in the ruins of a long-extinct civilization. When Shaw and his team are assigned to protect the researchers, they face an unexpected, merciless new enemy desperate to stop them.

An ancient secret has been awakened on Ferrous. The deadly race to claim this terrifying power has only just begun.

Performed by Audie, Earphones, and SOVAS Award-winning R.C. Bray (Expeditionary Force, Galaxy's Edge, Hell Divers), Sentinel is a must-listen for all military sci-fi fans in search of their next great series.

0 to 100 in like one page (in a good way)

Wow, this book just runs like a madman. Very engaging right off. What's the equivalent of a "page-turner" if it's an audiobook? I'm going to look into this author's other books! Purchased on R.C. Bray's recommendation.
Engaged me, and got my adrenaline pumping. Well done, Anthony, it's been a long time since I've been drawn in like that.

Not for the Squeamish

LOTS of gory details, if you’re into that. And I don’t particularly like the idea of people’s nervous systems getting plugged into something, be it a computer or another living being. But sci-fi authors seem enamored with the idea, and I’m sure our military is salivating all over the possibilities. No doubt their laboratories are working to make them a reality (if they haven’t already).

Good story and very well narrated! Looking forward to the next exploits of the Deadmen!

Shaw is terrible!

RC dos another perfect job! This could have been a really good story if not for the moron Shaw. Shaw makes so many bad decisions not sure how he ever got to be in charge of more than a broom closet. Shaw's character just plain sucked.

Good action & tech, OK story

This book had well-written action and some interesting tech. The story was okay. The characters were pretty typical grizzled sci fi tropes for the most part. There weren’t many plot twists that I didn’t see from a mile away, which could have been intentional. Some writers like that. Overall it’s interesting. I’ll check the next one out to see if the series improves. If it doesn’t, I’ll tap out before the third book comes out. It feels kind of like junk-food for now. Tasty but not a lot of substance. Nothing very thought-provoking. It’s also frustrating to keep hearing about the ancient alien civilization throughout the book and learn very little about them. I hope that changes in book two.
