About this listen

I’ve escaped from a nest of backbiting nobles…only to fall into a whole city of them!

The Baron Sherazad sent me as far away from Eslant as possible. Now, I’m stuck in the middle of nowhere, in a nest full of enemies, with only a demented mimic and a renegade elf to watch my back.

Arrdeam’s rulers are determined to keep their civilians weak and under control, but that won’t work for me. Me, Melina, and Chester need to grow strong…strong enough to defeat all our enemies and to one day make our way back home to get our revenge. Strong enough to survive the mysterious corruption that’s sweeping through the world.

And if anybody tries to stop us? Well, Chester’s always looking for his next meal.

Amazing story and narration!

This is a great sequel. I love where the authors took the story and all the nonsense that Chester and friends got up to. The team at Soundbooth Theater did an amazing job as always on the narration. 10/10

A good sequel

I loved the book! The new abilities and new characters are such a delight to see. Also, the internal struggle of Damon coming to terms with becoming a monster was a very interesting to see. Honestly, I loved this book and I can't wait to see how the story continues in the next book.

Jeff Hays the Minic

The awaited second book was great. The voice actors did an excellent job at portraying the different emotions of the characters and the mimic. Jeff Hayes did an excellent job with the multiple personality of the mimic, and the voices were very entertaining.

I'M FITTING IN!!!

it subverts some troups that I don't think get enough attention and I love it. the characters are fun and funny. certainly not high fantasy but it's not meant to be. I am already looking forward to the next installment.

Better than the first.

Positives:
- Jeff Hays is a cake addicted mimic... I honestly don't think more needs to be said.
- New characters are introduced without it feeling overwhelming.
- Power progression is pretty good if a little vague, its not your standard I have 1 OP skill that makes me the strongest in the land story and I am here for it.
- Overarching objective and side quests have been firmly established have been established and the world building was done pretty decently.

Negatives:
- MC is more tolerable than the first book, but the internal monologuing can get tiring and repetitive (found myself skipping through a lot of that).
- Every noble is snobby, incompetent, or downright evil and its gets tiring to hear the MC's one-sided assessment all the time. Adding a bit of variety and maybe a noble that tells him he has no idea what its like to come from that world (everyone always vying for power from the day you are born, assassination's, treachery, politics, etc.), It would do him and the story some good to know that while his life was/is hard a noble life is no cake walk either (pun intended).

Chester filled the hole Princess Donut left.

character building felt smooth and well progressed! the voice acting was top tier in both books. Chester truly filled the comedic sidekick itch ice had since DCC. Amazing job Author and VAs! Cannot wait until the next book!

very good but...

I love the concept of this story. Soundbooth does awesome work. My biggest criticism is that Melinas voice is much louder than the almost whisper of the narration. she does good but maybe just a tweak on the levels plz. thanks for real though.
