Happiness for Kaitlin!!!!

I absolutely love series where the characters I've come to love get their happy-ever-after. What makes this even better is that the characters in this series are very real, flaws and all.

Kaitlin ❤️

Loved the Cassie Scot books and happy to finally read more about Kaitlin. I didn’t see Kaitlin’s story going that way. But it was so much better than I could have imagined. Also, glad Cassie made multiple appearances. Recommend every book in this series. Read Read Read

Kaitlin’s Tale

We got more of Kaitlin’s back story and so many things make so much more sense! I loved this book just as much as the earlier ones in this series. Writing and narration are both great!

Different but equally as good as the rest.........

Kaitlin's Tale is written in the world of the Cassie Scot series, and it is different from the rest of the series but every bit as enjoyable. This book really explores the magic world and has so much detailed and intriguing world building. We get an in-depth look at the world of the vampires as well as that of the vampire hunters. Unlike the other books in the series, the main characters, Kaitlin and Matthew, don't connect until well into the middle of the book. Kaitlin is fighting to escape either death or turning by the vampires as well as care for and protect her baby son. Matthew is trying to unite and lead the magical community against another powerful and corrupt magician.

From the moment Kaitlin and Matthew meet at the vampire hunters' commune, the action hits, and it is one wild ride. Luckily, while fleeing from the enemy, they have this idyllic time while they are healing to truly get to know the other and love begins to develop. I must admit that I had a few tears during this interlude, but the outcome of both the romance and the battle is so satisfying and worthwhile. Although it takes place after the Cassie and Evan saga, this book is a must for fans of the series. Not only do we get answers to so many questions, we get to see Kaitlin and Matthew, two characters so lost in the previous books, come into themselves as individuals and as a couple.

By listening to the entire series, I have come to really appreciate the talent of Melissa Reizian Frank, and this book is no exception. Although Frank is the voice of Cassie and Evan, I had no difficulty accepting her for Kaitlin and Matthew. Her delivery is flawless, and her performance makes this already wonderful book even better as an audiobook.

Enjoyable finale to a fun series

Any additional comments?

I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

It has been quite a while since I hung out with the characters in the Cassie Scot world, and I did miss them a bit. Kaitlin's Tale is another spin-off to the Cassie Scot series, and the final book in that world. So I suppose reading it is a bit bittersweet.

What I enjoyed about this book is the romance was not the primary focus, like the original series, but not so much like the first spin off, Madison's Song. The romance was a slow burn, with tension and attraction, but allowing a build up of trust and alliances first. I really liked the build up between Kaitlin and Matthew, from sharing their most private fears and truths, to having each other's backs when they needed support.

Another aspect I loved? We have a formerly disliked character who got a chance at redemption and a chance to prove how valuable he is, and what a good leader he can become. Matthew really shows himself and those around him what he's truly made of, and he's certainly more than just a mind mage who wants power.

The plot gets dark at times as we get to know the plans of the creepy but charismatic Alexander and we see what the scary ancient vampire Xavier is planning. While I can't say the story is completely wrapped up with a bow, we get set on the path for closure and the good guys hopefully ending up on top. But it is left open ended enough that should our author decide to revisit this world, maybe she will?

As for the narrator, I liked her better this time than previously, but I'm still not a huge fan of her voice or reading style. She's a bit reporter-like, as I mentioned in my review of Madison's Song, but she didn't rub me wrong this time around.
