About this listen

A single lady in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a suitor

Margaret de Lacey has accepted her unmarried state with dignity, if not delight. She had no suitors when she was young and starry-eyed, though regrettably poor, and it's unlikely any man will court her now that she's older, wiser, and still just as penniless. Until, that is, her brother unexpectedly inherits the dukedom of Durham and settles an enormous dowry on her, making her the most eligible heiress in town.

No gentleman in London is more in need of a wealthy bride than Rhys Corwen, Earl of Dowling. He contrives an introduction to Margaret because of her dowry, but she swiftly sets him right: no fortune hunter will win her heart or her hand. Far from put off, Rhys is intrigued. Interested. Entranced. And soon the only thing he needs more than Margaret's fortune...is her love.

Almost a 5 star.

The story was a good, short but good. The narrator was good but when he was reading Reese he sounded a bit Silence of the Lamb’sy.

Fun read!

This is such a great book and the narrator Gildart Jackson makes it the best.

Another Good Story

This was another good story. Now we need to get Francis’ book, and his HEA! As bad as he’s been, it would make a GREAT story!

Compatibility is important in love.

This is a nice little story with all the good things we expect, and a surprise or two along the way. Refreshing to have an 'old spinster' heroine for a change and a male narrator. Some female narrators make the heroine sound like a 10 year old on a sugar high.

My favorite of the 4 book series

Instantly fell in love with Maggie. I love the relationship between her and Frances - it's a great insure into her relationship with her nephews.

Fun series!

Caroline Linden writes very well. Her characters come to life. The settings are presented vividly. I look forward to anything this lady writes.

Great book

I really enjoyed this story but found the voiceover to be tough to deal with. I'm sure he's great but wasn't suited for this book/genre. The story itself is good though. Not my fav by her but worth a read.

Narration is distracting

After listening to two other series by Caroline Linden, I was excited to read her other series. Based on the Amazon Reviews, this book I Love the Earl is sort of a prequel to Truth About The Duke series. I chose to listen to this book first.

I was disappointed with the narration. I like Gildart Jackson, I remember him from Charmed and various other tv shows, like Super Natural, CSI & Burn Notice. But I don't think reading Romance novels are a good fit for him. Other books I am sure he is great at it, I'm think paranormal or maybe horror. But his voice, just makes are Hero and his friends sound like they are 70 yr old crotchety men! Our heroines sound younger but still older than the character and rough.

I think it is a good story, his voice was a bit distracting. Its a spinster, that recently got a huge dowry from her brother, who recently inherited a dukedom. The Hero, is broke looking for wealthy bride.

I am not sure i can listen to rest of this series. I wish authors would just stick with one narrator for all their books.

UPDATE: I had about an hour left in the book when i wrote this review. The story definitely gets better in the last hour or so of the book! Gildart's narration does eventually grow on you. Some male characters he does a decent job with but many still sound like crotchety old men. I have finished the first two books in the series and about to start the last one. I think listening to book at 1.4X speed helps.

Romantic and funny

The banter between the brother and sister is priceless. The romance priceless. Love the back story.

Terrible Narrator!!!

This a romance! The male narrator made the characters sound like much older people.
Beware that he narrates all the books in the series! I’ve learned an expensive lesson because I purchased the next 3 books in the series before I started listening to this one! Yuck!
