Publisher's summary

After thinking long and hard, I have come to the conclusion that - although it may not be the kind of love my sister and I once had in mind - marrying Mr Darcy would be marrying for a love of the deepest kind.

Recovering from their parents' deaths, Elizabeth and Jane Bennet have held their family together, leaning on the support of their uncle, Edward Gardiner, to help them survive. Thus, when Mr. Gardiner is threatened with scandal and ruin, Elizabeth vows to help him. Hearing of her distress, the scandalous Fitzwilliam Darcy enters her life - offering his aid in exchange for her hand. Accepting his proposal upends her life in unimaginable ways as she learns of the treachery of the peer courting her, the betrayal and violence committed by her childhood friend, and the threat to her country as it faces another war.

As Elizabeth and Darcy face the turmoil and trials swirling around them, they risk opening their hearts to unexpected passion. In order to survive challenges from without and fears within, they must summon unknown strengths and forge new bonds to solidify a love of the deepest kind.

Great adventure mixed with love story!

Love the way the author wrapped the Darcy’s love story with British history. Also loved the other sub stories - not the usual variation.

Reason for Marriage

I disliked how the couple came together so fast. I liked how sweet, clean, and historical this variation is.

Elizabeth’s strength is what draws you in

In this book Elizabeth and Jane make the most of the cards they are given after the death of their parents. Elizabeth’s strength is what draws you in as she tries to make the most of the season. Darcy sees her and does not hesitate to go for what he wants while others are using her love for her family against her. This was such a change for Darcy character, i enjoyed this story immensely. The narrator did a good job making the story come to life.

Narration needs to be re-recorded!

I'm only an hour in and I'm leaving a review (which I never do) because the narration is driving me crazy. I'm liking the story so far but the narrator sounds like she was just chased by zombies and stopped to tell me this story. The deep breaths in between sentences is so loud it pulls you out of the story. I'm genuinely sorry that it bothers me this much. She rushes through the dialogue and then takes a slow deep breath. The result is that almost every character sounds like they are doing their "breathy sexy voice" and are exhausted at the same time. There is also some odd static noise at one point.

I'm taking a break and seriously considering returning this audiobook. Narration can make or break an audiobook and this one needs to be redone in my opinion.

A waste of a credit

This was over the top melodramatic and totally pointless. Between the author and the narrator, the story and the characters were dreary and boring - no chemistry. I even could not like Darcy and Elizabeth. The plot was rushed, and was unrealistic. I wish I had not wasted my money or my time on this book.
