Publisher's summary

America’s best-selling author of Wilderness, The Gateway to the Soul, and Nature’s Silent Message offers a glimpse into his childhood of skateboarding, high school brawls, and early trials and tribulations with money and success. The scenery may be different, but the writing style is business as usual, with life lessons cruising a mile a minute in this insightful story about what it means to never grow up.

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

We’ve been asked this question over and over, practically since the day we could walk. Many of us have absolutely no idea. We never have and we never will. This bothers us terribly and on a profound level. We feel useless, disconnected, scattered, unfocused. If we could just make up our minds—about something, about anything!

What if you didn’t have to grow up?

Society would like us to believe that to be happy, we need successful careers. But let’s face it—we’re not all meant to be doctors, lawyers, scientists, and accountants.

Some are meant to be dreamers.

The people on the fringes of society who don’t necessarily subscribe to the modern version of the American dream. Artists, adrenaline junkies, nomads, life seekers. Those who doubt conventional wisdom, question authority, and continually search for newer, better ways to live.

The world needs freaks—now more than ever.

Never before has there been such an opportunity to live the life of your dreams. Never before have there been so many ways to earn an income. Never before have there been so many ways to have fun!

What do you want to be...when you don't grow up?

Must Read for Anyone

I found this book on TikTok and was highly interested in how he paints a picture of how we are all so influenced by society and the normalcy of a 9-5, being told to climb that corporate ladder and much more.

I definitely will be taking some of the advice given in this book and use it to have a more open mind when it comes to life.

Read this book. I highly recommend it!

The simplistic yet deep meaning

Great book. So many things seem clichè or cheesy but with his own experiences tied to it, you begin making connections about your life as it pertains to those things too and it makes a lot of sense. Great read!

What kind of cog do you want to be?!

"I Don't Want to Grow Up" is a delightful and thought-provoking exploration of the complexities of adulthood, wrapped in a charming narrative that beckons readers to embrace their inner child. Through a blend of vivid storytelling and profound insights, Stillman invites us to reconsider our perceptions of maturity and the importance of maintaining a youthful spirit in a world that often demands conformity. If you're ready to make a change and need some motivation this is the book for you.

You’re always growing

A point that stood out to me is that there is not a certain way to grow up, or how to enjoy the beauties of life. Become who you want to be and don’t wait thinking it will happen. Make it happen.

I am of this breed. I am not alone

Their wasn't anything in this book that wasn't true. So many similarities I could draw from. Felt as if my story is his story and the others that search for endless truth and love. I yearn for nature. I raise my son by the same teachings you find in this book. Thank you Scott Stillman.

Helps me in my 20s deciding what I want to do.

This book really makes me feel validated to live at my own terms and be who I want to be in this time of pressure and uncertainty.

Focusing on my goals and not settling or being dissuaded by others, especially those close to me.

Well, written and easy to follow. would be grateful for some additional fill-in-the-blank to help guide the reader.
