About this listen

To save her people, Mikayla S'Apul has only two options: become a prize in the upcoming battle or take control of her fate. When a worn journal falls into her hands, revealing the secrets of a legendary group of warriors, Mikayla realizes it holds the answer to her dilemma. A marriage of convenience is the only way to protect the Raasa people.

Overlord Vaan Galip is the commander of the warlord army tasked with protecting Kabanians and bringing peace to his lands. Betrayed by one of his own, joining with Mikayla S'Apul would provide her people with protection while giving him the opportunity for vengeance. Falling for the Raasa female was never part of his plans. When a common enemy threatens, Vaan and Mikayla learn the true depth of what it means to be bound not only by marriage, but by honor.

Great surprise!!!!

TAILS OF AN AUDIO BOOK JUNKIE:::I will be honest and say I only purchased this book because of the narrator.... I am a SUPER groupie for his voice!!!! I really love it!!!. That being said, this is one of my most favorite books! The story was great but it was the way it developed that really made me love it. Such a creative female character!!! I love this book.

Alien Alpha Man Whom Remains Strong.

If you could sum up Honor Bound in three words, what would they be?

Love on another world. Good Alien Romance and great world building..

What other book might you compare Honor Bound to and why?

Warriors that could summon armor reminded me of an anime Ronin Wildfire, or kid show Captain Power from the late 80's early 90's. It wasn't a focus of the book but I would have liked to see more detail about it. It was interesting seeing it in a romance book.

Which character – as performed by Michael Pauley – was your favorite?

Overlord Vaan. He did a really good job of making him feel arrogant, in charge, and a man few would disappoint or cross.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Vaan's Warlord made amends and nearly died protecting Mikayla.

Any additional comments?

Where to start? I loved this book. I found the world building and lore top notch and fascinating. Mikayla has Overlord Vaan's, mothers journal. In it she learns of him and his brave warlords. Honorable men that no one could best in battle. The Journal goes on to explain how they were betrayal and sentence (unfairly) to death. His mother learned of the plan and reached him in time to switch out the poison that would kill him for potion that made them all appear dead and put them into a deep sleep. Vaan's mother managed to smuggle their bodies out before they could be burned, and hid them. However, something happen and she died before she was able to awaken them.

Mikayla's venom is the only thing that can wake them. She needs the men because one of the warlords that helped betray Vaan and his men is returning to force Mikayla to marry him. Vaan now owes her his life and they both have a mutual enemy.

Overlord Vaan is a true caveman. Its his way or no way and he's the only one right(And usually thats true). He starts off as a terrible lover. Cringe worthy scenes that reminded me of how men viewed sex. In his culture pleasure is for the man and he really doesn't know better. Once Mikayla teaches him that she needs hers too, he found that enjoyable and more than acceptable.

The love between them wasn't instant, even though the attraction was there. It grew over time and I liked that. A great deal of it was learning Overlord Vaan's ways and trying to get through to him on the things she needed, like intimacy. Also he had to learn to trust Mikayla as they were different species and there had never been a union between their cultures before.

While Overlord Vaan (yes I feel the need to use his title lol) was pure alpha male, he was highly honorable and fierce. The battle/fight scenes were fast paced and Michael Pauley brought urgency and excitement to those scenes.

If you like true alpha males, settings on other worlds, new cultures etc. If you like your alpha men to stay strong through out the book. Then this book is for you. I honestly can't recommend it enough. It is worth a credit. I however would buy the kindle book and add on the book for 2 bucks more and save the credit for those expensive books. Either way, its worthy of the buy.

Not what I expected...

Narration- I was never a fan of Michael Pauley, but he did very well.
Story- I need to clear up some things that are not mentioned in the summary. Although this book is based on another world (it never states, I'm assuming), the setting appears to be medieval. Swords are used and women are put in their place without argument from them. This threw me off until I changed my mindset to a different era.
What I did not like about the book was Mikayla. Although she was a princess and supposedly led her people, she was very pliant and stupid. I liked that she did what she needed to save her people, but then turned around and kept putting herself in danger against the "orders" from Vaan. I can't understand how she earned the loyalty of the warlords when she did nothing to earn it, other than smile her way to get what she wanted. Vaan grew on me, although I wished him to punish his mate, he became loving yet stubborn in his ways. The overall story arc was great, but the majority of the story centered around Vaan coming around to act as a mate. The sex scenes were awful, even when he finally learned how to please her, this is not an erotic alien romance in case that's what you're looking for. Not worth continuing the series for me, I wanted a more advanced alien style book, not medieval settings with the typical too stupid too live heroine.

Loved the book and the concept......wonderful

Two different species of humanoid that both need each other to overcome a war. This book was wonderfully written truly enjoy how the characters learn how to deal with one another's vastly different cultures....just enough drama, conflict and comedic relief.

Audible review

While I enjoyed the story very much, I honestly could not get past Michael Pauley's narration. I have never heard so many words mispronounced in one Audible production. It was absolutely ridiculous and definitely detracted from the story. At least he did not do his typical growling out of dialogue, as he has in other Michelle Howard's books.
