About this listen

Don’t call him Ishmael. Or do; he really doesn’t care. Just don’t call him Fred.

No matter what you call him, though, he has a problem. Well, several of them. Ishmael - for want of a better name - woke up in a world that had changed. The Corporations - the wielders of power in a society not long from now - brought about the end of civilization as we know it, nuking each other to the point where it collapsed.

Ishmael doesn’t know any of this, though; in fact, he doesn’t know anything about himself when he wakes up in this shattered world. All of his autobiographical and episodic memories are gone, and along with them, any knowledge of who he was or anything in his past.

Worse, he has made enemies of some very important people, and they are after him. They are armed and he is alone and in...well, he doesn’t know where he is, either.

Can Ishmael stay alive long enough to recover his memories - to find out who he is and how he fits - or will he be just another casualty of This Fallen World?

Good story

Enjoyed the book but really struggled with (like the first book) every chapter ends with "this fallen world", its like a teeth cringing one-liner every chapter!

great book

I recconend it. Chris Kennedy did a good job in this fallen world.

Ishmael wakes up in Slidell. he doesn't know who he is but has a certain skill set. but he really doesn't know how to use it. this is the story of him trying to regain his memory and his real name

Really like the narrator

I get the fact it's a fallen world, so I don't need a reminder every chapter. but still a fun thing to listen to. this same narrator has narrated other books but seems to disappear into his characters.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed the story and action, and I believe you will too if you can ignore hearing, "This Fallen World," repeatedly.

Ties In First Books Advanced Story

This book isn’t as good as the first in the series. With that being said I still very much enjoyed it. It takes the third section from The Fallen World and ties different people into the story after the fall. We do lose Matthew Cade and his story line which I would like to be revisited. We learn new characters and see how they adapt to this fallen world.

Good story , but

Annoying that at the end of every chapter “in this fallen world.” Just why? This series is good, except this annoying phrase over and over.

Very Entertaining

I loved the book because it's good entertainment and occasional dry humor. It's also well-presented by a skilled narrator whose voice appears to be perfect for the job.

I don't care what anyone says

it's narrated great and the repitition of the catch phrase sets the mood for ALL the books. A fantastic free one. listen.

I enjoyed it

Chris Kennedy writing is very good and Mark Boyett's narration is a definite plus to the audiobook version. My biggest objection is the cause for the apocalypse, i.e., two meta-government corporations accidentally ignite a MAD situation. Not governments but corporations. The how and why of this was never really fleshed-out other than bemoaning the evils of capitalism.
