Publisher's summary

From acclaimed author Charlie Donlea comes a twisting, impossible-to-pause novel of suspense in which a filmmaker helps clear a woman convicted of murder - only to find she may be a pawn in a sinister game.

The Girl of Sugar Beach is the most watched documentary in television history-a riveting, true-life mystery that unfolds over 12 weeks and centers on a fascinating question: Did Grace Sebold murder her boyfriend, Julian, while on a Spring Break vacation, or is she a victim of circumstance and poor police work? Grace has spent the last 10 years in a St. Lucian prison, and reaches out to filmmaker Sidney Ryan in a last, desperate attempt to prove her innocence.

As Sidney begins researching, she uncovers startling evidence, additional suspects, and timeline issues that were all overlooked during the original investigation. Before the series even finishes filming, public outcry leads officials to reopen the case. But as the show surges towards its final episodes, Sidney receives a letter saying that she got it badly, terribly wrong.

Sidney has just convinced the world that Grace is innocent. Now she wonders if she has helped to free a ruthless killer. Delving into Grace's past, she peels away layer after layer of deception. But as Sidney edges closer to the real heart of the story, she must decide if finding the truth is worth risking her newfound fame, her career...even her life.

What Do You Believe?

Charlie Donlea's Don't Believe It takes you on a ride you won't soon forget. Not only are you given a front-row seat into the world of crime solvers and reporters, but you are also introduced to the real-life ups, downs, truths, and lies that they all face and must sift through on daily basis, in order to make the distinction between fact and fiction.

It is clear from the beginning that a great deal of time and research went in to writing this book. Every character is real and believable, causing readers to eagerly tune in each week with viewers from all over the world to the most-watched documentary in history, The Girl of Sugar Beach. As new evidence is introduced to the case, in near real-time, Charlie Donlea sends his audience on a highly-engaging, emotional rollercoaster, filled with unpredictable twists and turns, excitement, and suspense.

I preordered this audiobook, and it was well worth the wait! In addition to this being Charlie Donlea's best work, the performance by narrator Nina Alvamar is outstanding! She did a phenomenal job bringing the events to life; I could easily see and hear everything as if it was unfolding before my very eyes. She had me from the very first word to the very last. While I also own the paperback of Don't Believe It, my overall experience was made that much more enjoyable being able to listen to the audiobook. I absolutely loved it!

Without hesitation, Don't Believe It by Charlie Donlea, narrated by Nina Alvamar deserves 5/5 stars across the board! I recommend it to those who thrive on the element of suspense. Fans of mysteries, thrillers, and even real-crime will find this novel to be thought-provoking and captivating. It will stay with them long after all is said and done. I know the truth. Now, it's your turn to figure out what is real and what is not. What do you believe?

Conflicted

I really liked The Girl Who Was Taken and purchased this book just because of that one. This book was good and was worth the credit. My issue is the ending!!! I was so frustrated because it did not make any sense to me. The book was well written and smart but the last chapter had me thinking that someone else wrote it. I mean all of the characters were smart and believable but I am supposed to believe that the retired cop came to his conclusion when he did? If I write more I will give it away. So I will say the story was good until the end but the performance was amazing. Nina Alvamar is an excellent narrator!

Great "Who done it?"

Charlie Donlea is a master of the dark psychological thriller and DON"T BELIEVE IT proves that again. If you like this genre, this novel is for you. This one keeps the reader guessing until the very end.

My decision to write this review is based on the narration by Nina Alvamar which is superb. Few narrators are able to do credible jobs with voices of the other gender. Nina Alvamar does great male voices. In the past I've had to check to see if she had a male co-narrator, but she does the male voices herself.

Thanks again to Audible listener Shelley (Raleigh, NC) for introducing me to Donlea through her outstanding reviews. If you love the mystery/thriller genre you should be following her and rewarding her very helpful reviews.

Blah

The story was good…predictable but still good. But that ending killed it. The whole story was cliche and could’ve gone in a million different better directions

Very good story.

This was a pretty good story. The narrator was decent enough. I can see why listeners had a problem with the ending.

I loved this book! I must admit, my fondness for True Crime stories is the main reason. Mr. Donlea did a great job! Ms. Alvamar is a new fave!

Could have been a great suspense novel.

Could have been a fabulous suspense novel but foolish ending. How many people do u sacrifice for one angry person?

Lords name in vain way to much

I don't understand how an author can not find a better way to express the mood/feelings of their characters other than to take the Lords Name in vain. other than that complaint, the story was great.
