Publisher's summary

No One I Knew is the compulsive new psychological thriller by A J McDine.

Praying her daughter’s still alive. Fearing her past is about to take its revenge. When three-year-old Immy vanishes during a family barbecue, her mother, Cleo, imagines the worst. Has she fallen into the river at the end of the garden and drowned? Or is it something even more unthinkable? After all, there's one person with good reason to want to abduct Immy - the woman Cleo thought she’d seen the last of three years ago. With time running out, Cleo sets out to uncover the truth. But as she confronts the demons of her past, it becomes clear everyone has a secret to hide. And the more she digs, the more she realises her carefully constructed life is just an illusion.

Struggled to finish

Started out exciting and then it just fell after 10 or so chapters. I hate when the author tells over and over and over things to fill in the book and make it last longer. The book became boring and I actually started and finished 2 other books before coming back and finishing. The last hour when everything usually comes was the same in this book and I didn’t really care anymore and it fell flat. Narration was great.

Loved it!

Really enjoyed this book! Especially because this was the part of Kent where I grew up. My mother actually owned Littlebourne House in Littlebourne during the late 60s and the River Stour passed through our garden in the back.

Another frustrating female protagonist

*Spoiler alert *
The story has some good twist and turns. BUT when the protagonist asked the killer for her cell phone so she could call the police and then proceeded to ask the killer for some tea, I started laughing.. did she really think that a killer would let her call the cops on her and then make her a cup of camomile?

How self absorbed the main character Cleo was.

It was a good enough story line, but the story could have been resolved much earlier if the main character was not so self absorbed and was aware of her environment.

Twists and Turns!

This book kept me guessing and on edge. Every time I thought I had it figured out, there was a plot twist. Great “read.”

No ones that forgiving

Sorry, I just can’t deal with the no big deal approach of the lead finding out her husband and friend have been cheating on and off their entire relationship. And so many obvious lack of common sense moments.are a note to not listen to anymore by this author.

The Gentle Twist and Turns!

Great story, narration and plots! The author has a way of making you think one thing when it’s something totally different!

An Interesting Read

McDine’s books have a tendency to be slightly predictable and this was no exception. However, this one had layers to the “twists” that weren’t so easy to pick up in advance.

Okay until it wasn't

Cleo can be so self-absorbed and frustrating, but it was her covering for a rapist and justifying covering it up that was the last straw for me.
