About this listen

"My house is a mess, my underwear is mixing with hers in the laundry, and my safe, quiet haven now smells of burnt candles and her."

Indy

Being the founder of a non-profit and keeping it going is my only focus right now. I don't have time for distraction–men, my health, my friends–all of it takes a back seat to me keeping this going. I've lived by other people's rules for too long, I am ready to break out on my own, and I'll prove to everyone I can do it. The Crown Project helps sick children and their families find some happiness during hard times, and I am committed to making it happen. If I can't have my own, I'll give someone else a fairytale. The only man I'd want is off-limits to me anyway. He's the meanest, grumpiest, and, unfortunately, the sexiest man I know. He also works with my brother. So there's that. I'll always be a supporting character, never the princess. My life just won't let me. It's impossible.

Derek

Without routine and order, the only thing left is chaos. Chaos leaves room for disorder and unhappiness. And that leads to betrayal. Never again will I allow that to happen. I am steady, focused, and at the top of my game as a tattoo artist at Hel's Ink. I am established, successful, and there is nothing that happens in my life that I don't allow. And then there is Indy. She is inescapable - a whirlwind of kindness and beauty and goodness. Everything about her is impossible. Left with no choice but to help her out of a challenging situation. I soon regret my decision and the insanity that comes with it. I let her in. Into my home and my life. But never– never- into my heart. There's no such thing as fairytales, and love stories don't really exist. But when everything changes, I wonder if maybe I've found a little piece of chaos I can live with.

Tremendous

I loved the book when I read it but the audio takes it to a whole new level. Joe as Derek was perfection and Mollie was amazing. I hope she gets to narrate Stevie. Her voices were spot on.

Derek is Book 4 in The Hel's Ink Series. This book is hands down my favorite so far. Indy is a founder of a non-profit and keeping it going is her only focus. She doesn't have time for a distraction—men, her health or her friends. Her plan is to get the Crown Project up and running so that it will help sick children and their families to find happiness during hard times. Indy wants to give someone else a fairytale. The one man Indy wants is Derek. When she ends up needing Derek's help everything changes.

Most recently I listened to the audiobook and it's phenomenal. Performed in duet narration by Joe Arden and Mollie Stark. These two were perfect as Derek and Indy. Joe and Mollie embodied their characters and their voices sounded so good together. Joe does a great southern accent. He portrayed Derek's grumpiness, his no nonsense attitude as well as Derek's need for order. Mollie gives an amazing performance. Indy suffers from multiple sclerosis. Despite her daily health struggles, she is such an optimistic person. Mollie exuded Indy's positivity and sunny, bright disposition. Her energy was so contagious. Joe and Mollie bring out all the emotions with their expressive tones. They elevated the story and portray the ups and downs of Derek and Indy's love story. What a compelling and unforgettable performances by these two. Truly amazing!

An Absolute Must Listen!

Derek is the fourth audiobook in DJ Krimmer’s amazing Hel’s Ink series, and I honestly could not have loved it more! I’ve been anxiously waiting for Derek and Indy’s story, and it certainly did not disappoint. I love a seemingly cold and broody MC who you just know has so much more going on deep down. And Derek definitely had a lot going on, dealing with a past devastating betrayal and heartbreak, anger issues, anxiety, and even OCD. He’s determined not to let anyone get close to him, and he heavily relies on structure and routine to keep his life together. Enter Indy, who blows through his carefully constructed life like a hurricane of sunshine and chaos. She’s fiercely independent despite her battle with MS and hates nothing more than having to ask for help, even when she desperately needs it. These two need each other more than either of them care to admit. And when they’re thrown together, sparks definitely fly and their chemistry is way too hot to handle. They just need to overcome their own stubbornness, and watching them eventually give in is an absolute joy

The duet narration for this story is provided by Joe Arden and Mollie Stark, who both hit it out of the park with their performances! Joe Arden’s slow, southern drawl and raw emotion bring so much life to the character of Derek, and you can’t help but feel every emotion right down to your core. And Mollie Stark brings a beautiful honesty to the character of Indy, flawlessly portraying her vulnerability as well as her strength and capturing the absolute sunshine that is Indy. The outstanding narration and engaging storyline make this an absolute must listen!

Amazing!

I can’t rant and rave enough about the Hel’s Ink series and just when I don’t think that the next book can be topped, well here comes the quiet loner Derek.

Derek is the man every women dreams of but only one women can break and that is Ashes little sister, Indiana Johnson.

I’m not going to give spoilers, this book is one you need to enjoy so you can capture the emotions these two characters experience, all the while giving reader to fully comprehend and appreciate the realities and hardships it is to be in a relationship with a person suffering from a debilitating illness. Also just really touching on the depression and the strength it takes from not giving in or up.

I love these books, totally worth the read for the laughs, the tears, the happiness and the sadness,

Derek

Derek and Indy are the main couple in Hel's ink book 4. Indy has MS and Derek has some serious trust issues due to his past. They both have many things to work though both together and alone. While an accident brings them back to Derek's home town there is so much that happens though out this book and opens us up to a whole new set of characters. I have absolutely loved this series and can not believe how amazing the narration on this one is. Mollie did such a great job bringing Indy's bubbly personality to life while Joe countered with Derek's growly gruffness. If you have the option make sure you listen to this series the books are all amazing. I can not wait to see what comes next for this couple and the crew as the series continues on.

This one shot right through my heart!!

Story - ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Spice - 🌶 🌶 🌶
Narration - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Derek is book #4 in the Hel's Ink series and maybe my favorite. While this story deals with serious issues, I found myself laughing at all the banter between the main characters, the Hel's ink family, and Derek's family in Virginia. My wheel of emotions definitely went around full circle. Derek was burned in his past by his ex-wife and best friend and vowed to never get close enough to anyone to get hurt again. Indie fights her inner "darkness" to not feel like a burden to everyone while trying to fully function with Multiple Sclerosis. There is darkness to this story, lightness to this story, and eventually some super smoking spice. And yes, we get all the Hel's Ink family involved with this story, too. This is an age-gap, grumpy/sunshine standalone, but this series is definitely best read in order. I sure hope there will be stories on Derek's family...those boys are hilarious!

The narration was fantastic. Joe Arden and Mollie Stark were perfect to voice Derek (grumpy, broody loner) and Indie (sunshine, thoughtful and caring). 5/5 stars!

DJ never misses!

Another 5 star book for what is now one of my favorite series!! Derek and Indy’s story was absolute perfection and the performances were some of my favorite ever. Joe Arden’s portrayal of Derek was unlike anything I’ve ever heard from him. This was my first time hearing Mollie Stark but it’s INSTALOVE for me !! I need more Mollie in my ears asap!!
