Temp worker David Evans has been dreaming of Dr. Alun Kendrick ever since that one transcription job for him, because holy cats, that voice. Swoon. So when his agency offers him a position as Dr. Kendrick’s temporary office manager, David neglects to mention that he’s been permanently banished from offices. Because, forgiveness? Alun Kendrick, former Queen’s Champion of Faerie’s Seelie Court, takes his job as a psychologist for Portland’s supernatural population extremely seriously. Secrecy is paramount: No non-supe can know of their existence. So when a gods-bedamned human shows up to replace his office manager, he intends to send the man packing. It shouldn’t be difficult - in the 200 years since he was cursed, no human has ever failed to run screaming from his hideous face.

But cheeky David isn’t intimidated, and despite himself, Alun is drawn to David in a way that can only spell disaster: When fae consort with humans, it never ends well. And if the human has secrets of his own? The disaster might be greater than either of them could ever imagine.

I loved this story with the exception of around most of the 2/3rds mark and then it became rinse and repeat and incredibly frustrating. But then the ending was really good. Joel's voices were good as always.

Excellent character development. Showing the strengths and faults of each character. Plot was strong and you thought you knew where you were going but then it twisted. Loved the voices. Each character stood out.

The story had similarities to Beauty and the Beast but was not a retelling. David was a charming and engaging character. He was well-matched with the curmudgeon Alan. Joel Leslie did an excellent job bringing the story to life.

I think it’s a nice take on the beauty and the beast story without being just a copy and paste mild editing of the original. I definitely enjoyed it. I think the narration was fantastic. I guess my only complaint is the personalities of the characters were a little wishy-washy and inconsistent, but not in a bad way, I would listen to this author again.

I loved this story when I read it, and loved the narration even more. I want to be friends with David. He is just a genuine soul. I loved how he helped Alun with his curse! Joel Leslie is always an amazihg narrator and he didn't disappoint here either!

Lots of interesting creatures and curses are used to guard and control the safety of fairies lands and outside the realm. Jealousy, greed, and power grabbing are common. But the rules need to be followed. That can be a real challenge to those who do not fit in. Or get kicked out.

But love can conquer if you have faith and are rewarded for saving the queen. And her authority. Just be brave and always willing to help those in trouble or in need.

A humorous romance of the"the small cheery one and the large grumpy one" trope with the line of world building that resulted in most of the author's subsequent books. Joel Leslie is his usual superb.

I loved everything about this audiobook. The narration by Joel Leslie was amazing!! He has such a talent for voices!!!! The story was just as good as the narration! There was a little bit of everything in this book. Mystery, angst, pining, love, magic. Highly recommend!!!
