About this listen

Flying through the night sky is amazing...especially when you're a spy.

Tall, athletic Mercedes McCartney is good at what she does - shaping clay into art. Supporting the downtrodden in the town of Woodland Creek. Oh - and transforming herself into a crow to fly the night sky, the wind in her feathers, soaring over landscapes, vistas, and endless wonder as she sources secrets and eavesdrops on people's folly.

Coming back to Earth sucks...unless you uncover the truth.

Mercedes is horrified when she comes upon the dead body of her best friend, Elena Iris, at her favorite place, Nightmoon Creek. Nearby, stands the very much alive hot guy she's been pursuing, Lennon Lusk. He's a suspect. She's a suspect. Mercedes' next mission becomes a big one - find out who really killed Elena, even if it means sacrificing her lust for Lusk.

She needs answers, fast. Her best clues come from a cat named Muffin and following her instinct, spying on the townsfolk. She uncovers secrets, lies and plots that fracture the calm appearance Woodland Creek presents. Only insiders know the truth. And insiders want Mercedes McCartney dead.

Great Story!

I don’t usually read many books from this genre, but I really enjoyed this one. The narration brought the story to life and held my interest throughout. The story was well thought out, complete and will keep you listening. I will be watching for this author in the future.

Interesting story

This is a bit different, but really keeps your attention and makes you want to forsake everything else to find out what’s about to happen next. I really enjoyed the narrator too.

Crows

This book was so good. I will admit at first I was creeped out because when I think crows I think of that creepy crow movie...but once I got into it I really got into it. The characters really worked well together and the story was intriguing. I never read a crow shifter book and I was intrigued.

Great Read

Crow's Caw at Nightmoon Creek was a good read by Calinda B. Mercedes is a shifters who can transform herself into a crow at night when she says on people. She stumbles upon her best friends dead body at Nightmoon Creek which is her favorite place. She also sees Lennon who is someone that she's been pursuing. They both become suspects and Mercedes must find out who murdered Elena so they get off the suspect list. She starts spying on the people in the town to try and find the answers she needs. This was a good read by Calinda B, I really enjoyed Dana La Voz narrations.

A great book to listen to

Would you listen to Crow's Caw at Nightmoon Creek again? Why?

Yes I really love it

What was one of the most memorable moments of Crow's Caw at Nightmoon Creek?

When Mercedes and Lennon found the skeleton also the crows call that the narrators put in instead of just saying the word caw

Which character – as performed by Dana La Voz – was your favorite?

All of them were really good.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When The skeleton turned human and left the world to be with his love

Any additional comments?

This is a great book that everyone needs to read. 5* to Calinda for writing it the cat was a cute add in to help the couple

crows

this was a pretty unique shifter read for me. I am used to more mammal shifting and more romance in my reads but with that being said, I have to say that I really enjoyed the twists that this shifter, mystery, romance read / listen took. While I could have done with out the actual crow's cawing in the performance - I get why it was there. I really so enjoyed the character chemistry between Mercedes and Lennon. I thought this was overall a well written and performed read and I understand that this is a stand alone in a series so I may have to check out more of this series...

Meh

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A few things, I had some slight issues with the narrators pronunciations The narrator not using the work ax "She axed a question" no, she didn't ax a question...she asked it, there is a difference. The narrators voice was nice to listen to overall, it was just the pronunciation issue.

I also had a major issue with the "hero" of the book offering his 17 year old nephew pot and alcohol. Yes, it might seem minor to some or even weird that it ticked me off but it did....if my brother or sister offered that to my kids we'd have more than just a few words between us. Drug use of any sort has negative impacts, especially on a developing brain...a 17 year old brain is not fully developed. Okay, off my soap box

Also how the heroine, Mercedes, still melts when she thinks about Lennon, even though she suspects him of killing her best friend? Doesn't make sense to me

What could Calinda B and Woodland Creek have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Cut the drug references. Made Mercedes a little stronger, does she have to cream her panties every time she thinks of Lennon Lusk, even when she thinks he brutally murdered her best friend?

What didn’t you like about Dana La Voz’s performance?

She had some really basic narration errors. I did like her voice overall, it was very smooth and silky. I would give her another chance as a narrator

Any additional comments?

I really wanted to like this book, it had an interesting concept on shape shifters and the magic world. I liked how the town was a safe haven for them, and I loooooved the idea of an underground railroad for shifters.
I didn't buy how all of a sudden almost the entire town that Mercedes has lived in her entire life turns against her and thinks she could have killed her best friend because she was jealous.

Also, how did Lennon not figure out she was a shifter right away, especially after she got crow wings in his coat? With his knowledge you'd think that would spring to mind pretty quickly.

I loved the Mercedes perspective as a crow, and I was glad that the author didn't stick to just one mythology type to explain shifters and their possible jobs
,
I did figure out who the real killer was about half way through the book, the other crimes committed by that person didn't shock me either. I'm surprised that that person didn't come up on Mercedes radar earlier.
