About this listen

Welcome to Arkham County. Population: 749,824. But that number’s dropping all of the time....

Lying northeast of Massachusetts, just south of Hell, Arkham County is somewhere you find yourself, not somewhere you ever mean to go. Once you do find it though, you'd better get used to living there, as you may be there for however long you have left to live.

From within the walls of Arkham’s asylum, reclusive writer Randolph Carter tells the story of orphan Violet Flintock, who arrives in Arkham County in search of her own history only to be instantly greeted by the bloody realities of this small town, whose foundations are built from the lore and mythology of HP Lovecraft.

In this Audible Original production, Stanley Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada, Fortitude) leads a cast to introduce you to the horrific, bizarre and just plain weird world of Arkham County. This HP Lovecraft-inspired tale will delight fans and those unfamiliar with his wild, surreal and terrifying horror stories.

Thank goodness for Tucci!!

The whole thing is much like Twilight Zones. Stanley Tucci is the base for all the stories. The stories are interesting, intertwining and continue to draw you emotionally and intellectually.

a bit tough to follow

while this Lovecraft-inspired story was entertaining, by using so many names, places and situational events from the original HPL mythos, it was tough to follow and confusing to wade through the cast of characters - and their relationships.

I had to listen 3 times to figure it out.

Story wasn’t that bad, background sound effects overkill

I have to say the performances of the people were BRILLIANT! But they could have done away with a lot of the background sound effects as it does get over powering at times when you are trying to listen to what is happening. I would recommend the listen either way cause a full crew production to any book is ALWAYS WORTH IT.

Good performance, but could be better

Good story. Kind of surprised it’s free.
Performance was good, but it could have been better. There were moments in the story where I didn’t really know what was going on. The sound effects didn’t help either. It just left me confused. For example, describing the monsters, no idea what they looked like.
Ultimately, it was a good production.

Decent Story, Great Acting

Loosely based on H.P. Lovecraft's Mythos, this tries to intermingle the story of most of his characters into one audio drama. Bringing together Randolph Carter, the Wateleys, Professor Dyer and a host of others, Arkham County dramatizes the modern back story of most of these characters--before they went completely insane, or died.

While the story seems to wander in places and almost feels lost, some of it feels forced as if the writers were trying to mix in too much of H.P Lovecraft's mythos. I did find the dramatic performance to be top notch though.

While I got this for free on a promo, I would likely pay for it simply because I enjoy the Lovecraftian Mythos. Overall it was an enjoyable listen, I will listen to it again in the future, although I will put this in my Radio Drama Catalog.

Movie without a picture

Disturbing....yet entertaining. Sound effects were well done and extremely graphic. Not one for the kiddos

Fun Lovecraftian Romp with overdone sound effects

Fun light Lovecraft inspired story not lacking in self aware humor. The sound effects are overdone and loud so as to distract from rather than enhance or help the story.

It helps if you really know love craft

It is a well performed interesting story that has vibrant imagery and good writing. It doesn’t dwell on overworked tropes but embraces the inspiration. Have fun, be weird.

Genuinely scary

Like all Lovecraft, the story gets confusing and obscure. I only made it about half way through because it is actually pretty creepy.
