About this listen

A not-quite epic science fiction adventure about a down-on-his luck galactic pilot caught in a cross-galaxy struggle for survival!

Space travel just isn't what it used to be. With the invention of quantum teleportation, space heroes aren't needed anymore. When one particularly unlucky ex-adventurer masquerades as famous pilot and hate figure Jacques McKeown, he's sucked into an ever-deepening corporate and political intrigue. Between space pirates, adorable deadly creatures, and a missing fortune in royalties, saving the universe was never this difficult!

From the creator of Mogworld and Jam! Benjamin Richard "Yahtzee" Croshaw is a British Australian comedic writer, video game journalist, author, and video game developer. He is perhaps best known for his acerbic video game review series, Zero Punctuation, for The Escapist.

Yahtzee has done it again, still unsure what "it" was but I liked it.

Yahtzee has done a few books and I have liked his previous work. I felt no fear in burning a credit to get this latest work.

There are many tropes and plot device ruts along the roads of sci-fi and fantasy. Yahtzee has blown the shocks out of the listeners ride but you learn to enjoy the spine compressions and bitten tongues as you jounce and shudder along the narrative.

I sense the author/narrator does not consider this a serious genre defining book allowing him to reveal how others in the field may take themselves too seriously.

I will continue to keep my eyes open for Yahtzee to pull up alongside me on a narrative backroad promising a wild ride sure to require a seatbelt and I will definitely ride shotgun again.

Neo-classic Space Opera

Harken back to yesteryear when Syfy was fun. When Space Opera was about Daring Do, space monsters, blasters, rocket ships, villains and their henchmen. Who is evil? Who is good? Who knows.

No, this novel is not from the Golden Age of Syfy but it uses the winning formula of space, danger and humor that entertains while not falling into the trap of being predictable.

(Don't miss the repurposed "tribbles" that will gross you out.)

Douglas Adams has reincarnated

A surprisingly fun romp through space-ish written by one of my favorite YouTubers. Completely recommended

Hilarious and great story

My husband didn't find the writing as clever as I did (maybe the jokes just went over his head) but I was chuckling late into the night listening to this book. The story was better than I thought it would be for a comedy/sci-fi too.
At first I thought this author must be narcissistic wanting to voice his own audiobooks, but the narration was AWESOME! I highly recommend this book if only for the voice acting.

well worth it

This book is goddamn hilarious, and well worth the listen. This is one of the best Sci-Fi comedies I have heard in a while.

Scott Meyer in Outer Space

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I doubt most authors like to be compared to other writers, but I think in this case it's a genuine compliment. Fast-paced, witty, and doesn't take itself too seriously. A fun read...err...listen.

absolutely great.

I've been a fan of Yahtzee for over a decade, and he delivers again. this was just great entertainment. i loved the characters and his narration captures the nuance that you'd miss just reading it.

Yahtzee's no voice actor, but that isn't important

Yahtzee's writing is a constant ride of of one liners and moments of irony. Finished the book in one sitting I am going for another round next weekend. Thank you Yahtzee.

Easily my favorite of Yahtzee's books so far

This book has a lot of Yahtzee's signature dry, snarky humor. I feel like it's a little better focused than Mogworld and the characters are more fleshed out.
