Publisher's summary
Meet Brooke: a bisexual Bridget Jones, a millennial Meg Ryan, a girl standing in front of a boy asking him—wait, it doesn’t have to be a boy? For Brooke, ‘The One’ could be anyone. As long as it’s the type of (actually highly problematic) movie love she’s watched on repeat since she was a little girl. Brooke writes algorithms for a dating app, which is odd given what a hopeless romantic she is. But in the wake of a devastating breakup and with her 30th birthday looming, it seems Brooke has no choice but to do something she’s never done before: put her own algorithms to the test.... Based on the award-winning sell-out Edinburgh Fringe & Soho Theatre show, Algorithms is a brave, bold and brilliantly funny comedy-drama about dating beyond the binary.
Starring Sadie Clark as Brooke, Alison Steadman as Lucinda, Seyan Sarvan as Amira, Len Gwyn as Frankie, Desiree Burch as Katya, Ciara Baxendale as Josie, Joe Thomas as Charlie and an ensemble cast.
Directed by Lisa Spirling with original score by Tawiah.
Algorithms is intended for an adult audience as it contains scenes of an explicit sexual nature and strong language. Listener discretion is advised.
Sadie Clark: Sadie is an award-winning writer, actor and comedy improviser. Her first full-length play, Algorithms, sold out at the Edinburgh Fringe (2019) and Soho Theatre (2020), it won the TV Foundation’s ‘Stage to Screen’ New Voice Award (2020) and was long-listed for the Tony Craze Award (2018). She is an alumni of Soho Theatre Writers Lab (2018), BFI Network x BAFTA Crew (2021) and Mercury Theatre Playwrights (2022). Sadie was named one of The Guardian’s ‘12 Theatre Stars of 2020’ where they cited Algorithms as ‘astonishingly assured and practically broadcast-ready...sweet, sad and, as performed by Clark herself, full of heart–with more than a touch of Miranda Hart too’. Her first two-hander, Gemini, inspired by her experience growing up between London and Norfolk, is currently in development with support from Mercury Theatre and HighTide. It explores queer identity in rural areas, farming and the climate crisis. She is also developing Greedy, a multi-disciplinary piece about desire, lies and willpower, with the support of director Hannah Hauer-King, dramaturg Jules Kelly, Soho Theatre, The Corn Hall and the Arts Council England. After gaining a first in Natural Science at UEA Sadie trained as an actor with Fourth Monkey Theatre Company. She has also trained in long-form improv with Monkey Toast, The Free Association and The Groundlings. She performs regularly on the London improv scene with the all-queer female/non-binary team ‘Hell Yeah’ and as part of the duo ‘A Little Bit of Tender’.

They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Asher Donovan is a living legend—the darling of the Premier League, the (arguably) greatest footballer in the world. But his reckless antics and recent team transfer have caused much controversy, and when his feud with his rival-turned-teammate costs them a championship, they’re forced to “bond” during off-season cross-training. Hockey coach Ashley Jaswal doesn't take nonsense from anyone … except her overbearing and superstitious family. They believe she's a good luck charm for her brother Jas, the newest Vancouver Canucks draft pick, forcing Ash to attend all his games as he rises up the NHL ranks, sacrificing her personal life (not that she has one—who decided hockey season needed to be 10 months long anyway?). Ash also clashes with Jas’s teammate, Canucks captain Devin Snyder.

Just what I needed
As a bisexual woman myself, I often find it hard to see myself represented in media in an authentic way. This book was laugh out loud funny while being relatable and at times even touching! Plus the steamy bits were lovely hahaha

Not a comedy, a political statement. Awful!
I waited for this book for over a month to only have a Huge let down. I don't get it, isn't this based on an award winning play? Did they pull out only the non- funny parts?
The heroine is dismally pathetic. Oh boy, she makes her life story is so depressing ... so the entire tale is a pity party she throws for herself as she judges othets for not being PC enough.
The narration was like a radio show/ pod cast ... what a waste of $$ and resources.
Better titles would be "Navigatig Dating through Pronouns" or "How best not to use your love app". Meaning, if you the reader, want a lecture about not being open minded enough or want to feel bad about yourself by listening to an over-analyzer preaching to you, then this book is for you. ... but definable NOT for me.
