This book explains why the best writing sounds that way, with hundreds of examples from Lincoln, Churchill, and other masters of the language. Farnsworth shows how small choices about words, sentences, and paragraphs put force into writing and speech that have stood the test of time. This is must for anyone who wants to speak or write with clear, persuasive, enjoyable, unforgettable style.

Historia
Founder of the largest indigenous Christian church in American history, Joseph Smith published the 584-page Book of Mormon when he was 23 and went on to organize a church, found cities, and attract thousands of followers before his violent death at age 38. Richard Bushman, an esteemed cultural historian and a practicing Mormon, moves beyond the popular stereotype of Smith as a colorful fraud to explore his personality, his relationships with others, and how he received revelations.

Insightful Read
Revisado: 12-04-20
So much may be said upon the topic that a discussion claiming neutrality on the grounds of academic balance, in my opinion, is problematic.
I think a solid attempt to cover many elements of Smith’s life was made with some success. Although, I question the idea of giving many of the topics and concepts raised equal veracity as in doing so appears to distort the experiences and life of Smith. (like looking at a mole on the face and giving a detailed examination when simply an indication that the mark on the face is simply a mole)
Interesting read... and in my opinion a commendable attempt.

Too Much Cursing!!!

Ideas are solid, but vulgar and filthy language detracted from the message. Such a shame. I could have gone all day without listening to such language.

Historia
There are millions of stories in the city - some magical, some tragic, others terror-filled or triumphant. Jonah Kirk’s story is all of those things as he draws listeners into his life in the city as a young boy, introducing his indomitable grandfather, also a "piano man"; his single mother, a struggling singer; and the heroes, villains, and everyday saints and sinners who make up the fabric of the metropolis in which they live - and who will change the course of Jonah’s life forever. Welcome to The City, a place of evergreen dreams where enchantment and malice entwine.

An Outstanding Story Told by a Master
Revisado: 03-03-20
This is one of the very best stories I have ever heard. Koontz, a master wordsmith, creates an intriguing story through the use of exceptional characterization. Balancing between believable and incredible, he weaves a story that is both profound and touching. There are moments when one may think of this story as a sad story that pulls sympathetically at one’s heart strings, And if that was all it was, it would be a great story, but it is not all of that. It is NOT a story cheaply begging for sympathy. It is a remarkable work of writing.

Historia
Constitutional scholar Geoffrey R. Stone traces the evolution of legal and moral codes that have attempted to legislate sexual behavior from the ancient world to America's earliest days to today's fractious political climate. Stone crafts a remarkable narrative in which he shows how agitators, moralists, legislators, and especially the justices of the Supreme Court have historically navigated issues as explosive and divisive as abortion, homosexuality, pornography, and contraception.

Written with a Clear Agenda
Revisado: 02-27-20
Stone clearly crafts a story that is heavily biased. He attempts to ingratiate himself with the reader through arrogance of perceived authority. He side steps may of the most obvious contentions in his argument purporting that the justice system fails and is failing to support and defend the constitution. The system is broken. He argues against this point quite blind to the context required for a reasonable and balanced approach.
Overall, it was fun to mentally challenge his claims and affirmations, but misguided in terms of balance or conclusion.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Surprised and Impressed
Revisado: 12-07-19
While I was listening to the audio book, I kept thinking that in theory this all sounds fine, but does it actually work? I was at the gym trying to win the battle with my very large belly. I am not someone who would naturally attract people ... I am not charismatic in any way. To make a long story short. I thought I would test out what I was learning on the most attractive person in the gym - male or female didn't matter - my goal was to see if I could make a "friend."
I won't go through the details, but when I left the gym, I couldn't stop laughing ... it worked far too well. A person that would normally never communicate with me came over to me and we struck up a fast friendship of sorts. We're planning on catching up at the gym later in the week. I'm in total disbelief ... fascinating principles!

What are we to make of “supernatural” issues such as the existence of ghosts and the possibility of miracles? Approach these and other topics from a critical thinker’s perspective. Along the way, examine the deeper issue at work here: what is - and what should be - the relationship between science and the belief in things we can’t see.

Limited View of Scientific Research
Revisado: 02-08-19
He uses an outdated positivist view to define scientific research. His view is too emotionally charged and clearly speaks from a heavy bias of a narrowly defined and limited perception of reality.

On Combat looks at what happens to the human body under the stresses of deadly battle and the impact on the nervous system, heart, breathing, visual and auditory perception, memory - then discusses new research findings as to what measure warriors can take to prevent such debilitations so they can stay in the fight, survive, and win. A brief, but insightful look at history shows the evolution of combat, the development of the physical and psychological leverage that enables humans to kill other humans, followed by an objective examination of domestic violence in America.

A Must for Everyone who has Experienced Conflict
Revisado: 01-23-19
In one word Outstanding!
For many years, I dealt with conflict and violence almost daily. I found that it takes a toll on a person. I now understand better why conflict and violence exact a toll on all involved, and also, how to mitigate that toll. Well worth the read.
