AI just ain't there yet
Revisado: 04-21-25
I honestly tried to keep listening, hoping the story would improve enough to get past the horrible representation of the 1860 Southern black 'houseslave' character's portions of the script. But, it was so bad, it somehow added even more disrespect to the themes of this story. Couldn't last longer than an hour. Glad it was from the Plus catalog, and I didn't use a credit on it.

Revisado: 02-09-25
This complex story keeps you analyzing from the start. Twists and turns, yet once they happen you know they make sense, from beginning to end. And the narrator lets you believe you're in the room right next to her as she tells her story. Ome of yhe best I've read in years!

the plots of these stories were interesting. but the virtual voice made it extremely difficult to follow. difficult to tell which character was speaking, difficult to follow intonation, reading errors, and lack of expression . don't waste your time.

Letitia holds nothing more dear than the papers that prove she is no longer a slave. They may not cause white folks to treat her like a human being, but at least they show she is free. She trusts in those words she cannot read - as she is beginning to trust in Davey Carson, an Irish immigrant cattleman who wants her to come west with him.

Historical fiction at its best
Revisado: 02-18-24
The flow of this story is excellent. I caught myself wondering if it wasn't pure fiction. Character development is a delightful experience, one not slways so well presented in this genre. And I love the epilogue tie in explaining how facts support and mingle with story.

A rivoting story
Revisado: 01-12-24
From the opening page, to the final word, this character embodies the courage, compassion and forethought that propelled early America forward. What could be a happy little story about a simple midwife quickly becomes a murder mystery, lifelong romance, and retelling of early American history. A 'Not to Miss' historical fiction treasure.

Historia
Emerson, Georgia, and Marley have been best friends ever since they met at a weight-loss camp as teens. When Emerson tragically passes away, she leaves one final wish for her best friends: to conquer the fears they still carry as adults. For Marley, it's coming to terms with the survivor's guilt she's carried around since her twin sister's death, which has left her blind to the real chance for romance in her life. For Georgia, it's learning to stop trying to live up to her mother's and brother's ridiculous standards and learning to accept love.

A Must-Read for anyone who eats
Revisado: 11-03-23
Punch-in-the-gut realism concerning a rarely addressed topic. The author clearly presents the day-to-day struggles, prejudices, and insensitivity that most obese people must deal with. Threaded through the lives of these three well- developed characters, the reader is allowed, sometimes forced to feel the pain, anger and self-doubt that is pervasive in their lives. Sprinkled in are moments of joy, fear, pain and pride. All making for a great read!
