Brian is going through a rough patch in his life. His wife, Amber, has divorced him and is remarrying a rich Wall Street hedge fund manager. His boss hates him, his partner tolerates him, and he likes to stand on the ledge 10 stories up, bottle in hand. Four years ago his infant son passed away in his crib, sending his life into a tail spin. All he has left is saving lives, and saving them on his terms. That's not enough. Enter Brooklyn, a fiery redheaded stringer, who works the overnight selling video and stills to the New York media.

Brian and Brooklyn have a great life, two wonderful children, and they love what they do. Life is perfect. Too perfect, and it's about to change in the form of a junkie's dirty hypodermic needle. Faced with the real possibility that he has just become HIV positive, Brian is forced to undergo the dreaded PEP protocol. In the course of his treatment, he is forced to face some dreadful possibilities and reevaluate his life. The first real trial of their marriage has begun...

A blast from the past: Five years ago Brian's sister gave a toast at his wedding... and he hasn't spoken to her since. She's returning home with something to share with everyone. As if that wasn't enough? How about a balloon bending street person who takes a liking to her? Add to that Mel's mother-in-law, and Brian's parents, and put them in a room for Thanksgiving Dinner... When Brian brings her back from the brink of death due to an accidental heroin overdose she wants to thank him personally... and she's not taking no for an answer.

Brian clings to life with his own style and attitude. The world keeps turning as he begins his recovery and the people who love him cope with the real possibility that he may not make it back. Along the way he meets some old and new friends who guide him. In the streets it's business as usual for the rest of the crew.
