Rock bottom isn’t the end, it’s the beginning.
On his deathbed, Beau’s father reveals a life-changing secret. One big enough to send him into a tailspin of boozing and denial for a year.
When Beck, a single mom new to town, shows up at his automotive shop, he isn’t expecting to meet the woman who will tear him from depression and turn his life around.
And she doesn’t expect to catch the eye of a man ten years younger than her. What would he want with a single mom with a baby?
Each of them holds their own pain, both fight to understand and release their past, and together the two of them discover the truth about love and family.

In The Wild One (Book 1 of her Wrench Kings series), we first meet Beau Burns at his rock bottom, reeling, grieving after the death of his father and in shock over a deathbed revelation.
The catalyst for him to climb out of that pit? Beautiful, vulnerable, 11 years older single mom, Rebecca "Beck" Reid. For Beau, it's love at first sight. For Beck, it's an encounter with a rude, insufferable, hungover man, the icing on her already terrible day.
I fell in love with Beau from the beginning over the expression of grief he experiences at the loss of his father, over his remorse after his rude behavior, over his focused and dogged pursuit of Beck, over his tenderness toward her infant son, over his acts of service and desire to be part of Beck and Jett's life, and over his ultimate worship of her, body and soul.
Jane writes an equally compelling Beck, newly single, new mother, new in town, struggling over the abandonment of her son by her ex, over single parenting, over the perceived loss of having someone to love, to lover her, and to rear a family with. A mother myself, Beck's depiction of day to day parenting struggles hit hard. The realism was one of most powerful parts of this book.
Both must navigate painful aspects of their past and a few secrets that inform their relationships with others and with each other. Their relationship is the plot here, folks.
The emotional and physical chemistry between these two MCs is next level. The heat is scrumptious. More specifically, the manner in which Jane depicts breastfeeding between consenting adults is captivating. The reader gets a taste of what it might feel like as a postpartum woman to be fully validated, embraced, and worshipped unreservedly in all aspects of womanhood by an intimate partner. Frankly, it was beautiful and moving.
Equally as beautiful is the audiobook narration.
Jane narrates her own FMCs for all of her books. Her performance as Beck struck every emotional chord, especially in Beck's quiet moments of self-doubt and introspection as a single mom, and as an older woman falling in love with a younger man.
Jason Clarke performs the role of Beau in one of my favorite performances to date, portraying a man grieving, a man finding his place in the world after deep loss, a man fully accepting and desirous of his woman, and a man who falls head-over-heels for both a mother and her child. Yes, the "mine" growl we all know and love is still there, but it's the sweetness, gentleness, humor, yearning and desperation that really make his performance stand out to me.
Please prioritize your mental health, check triggers and CWs first, but if everything is green, give this one a listen for sure. And moms...be sure to read the dedication!
Deliciously sweet and spicy!

4 stars for story / 5 stars for performance
Beau and Beck both have had a a horrible year and are brought together when her AC goes out and Beau has an epiphany about his life. Both characters are full of personality and depth and are easy to root for. There were times when listening to this that I was really angry at Beck but it is all part of the growth her character is experiencing. The story does get slightly repetitive in the middle but the characters and spice keep it interesting.
The performance of this audio is amazing. If I didn't know better, I would think narrating was Daisy's main profession and contribution. Her voice is beautiful and I can hear her own growth as a narrator while listening to each subsequent book she performs. I am so thankful she made the decision to take on these characters herself. Jason Clarke is one of my top male narrators and I feel he doesn't get the accolades and attention he deserves. The emotion he brings to Beau's personality really endeared him to me. He helped bring this story to life and it was greatly appreciated. I can't wait to listen to the next Wrench Kings book on audio!

Beau Burns is in a year long binder after not only his dad dying of lung cancer, but also because of the information that was given to him right before his dad died. But that bender comes to a screeching halt when a drop dead gorgeous lady walks into his shop and his bad attitude + unprofessional comments are all he brings to the table. Beau would do anything to make it up to her so she knows that he would normally never treat or talk to a woman like that. And boy oh boy, is Beau persistent.
Quick someone find me the quickest Wrench Kings chain because I need a dirty talking mechanic STAT !! It's not very often I read reverse age-gap, let alone reverse age-gap that is ALSO single-mom .. holy bananas I love love loved it ! Beau would do anything, be anything, if it meant that he gets to be in Beck + Jet's life which is just the ultimate swoon. I'm so intrigued with the enemies to lovers to lovers story that is brewing between Beck's best friend + Beau's best friend . they are going to be explosive !
This is book one in the Wrench Kings series + it can be read as a complete stand alone .

I loved Beck and Beau's story. I loved how even though they got off on the wrong foot so to speak, they quickly became first friends and then to forever. Beau was really struggling with some news he received right before his dad passed away and he wasn't handling life in the best way. But when he met Beck, there was just something about her that made him want to be better.
I really loved how he used her rideshare as a way to get to know her and her son. Beau's bond with Jett was absolutely precious and so well written. Beck was still reeling from the demise of her marriage and being a single mom. Eventually she realized that Beau was all she and Jett really needed to be complete in this life. I did think she worried too much about her ex, especially after he signed away his rights. She should have completely let him go at that point. When she finally realized that Beau would be there no matter what, she came to terms with washing her hands of her ex.
I really enjoyed this story and look forward to the rest of the series.
The Wild One was definitely WILD!!!
