Has any pitcher in baseball been better than Zack Wheeler the past five seasons?

If you look at the numbers, Wheeler is No. 1. And it’s not even close. Wheeler leads baseball with 25.4 bWAR and 24.7 fWAR from 2020-24. He is second in wins (59), second in innings pitched (829 1/3) and WHIP (1.03). He is third in ERA (2.94). He has a career 2.18 postseason ERA, which is the fourth-best (minimum 10 starts).

But what makes Wheeler tick? We learned a little more about Wheeler’s preparation, his demeanor on the mound and more in a recent conversation at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida.

The Eagles pulverized the Chiefs on Sunday in perhaps the greatest performance by a Philadelphia team to ever win a championship.

We had a blast watching the Eagles on Sunday, but we’re just as excited for Spring Training to begin this week in Clearwater, Fla. Phillies pitchers and catchers will have their first official workout on Wednesday at Carpenter Complex. Ruben, Jim and Todd discuss the things they’re most interested in seeing this spring. It ranges from Alec Bohm’s mindset to Ranger Suárez’s conditioning and health to top prospects like Andrew Painter, Aidan Miller and Justin Crawford.
