• Ep. 50 - Dan Uyemura - PushPress
    Feb 6 2025

Funny enough I was actually a customer of his for years using Pushpress to run my gym, but he wasn't on my radar until long after I sold my gym. What brought Dan to my attention was his social media presence, he's very outspoken in his beliefes and values.

His content really isn't political or devicive, but it is honest. If he sees BS in the gym/software industry hes going to point it out. In the world we live in now where trust is low and it seems like everyone is just trying to make a quick buck people like Dan stand out.

I should also point out that I have no affiliation with PushPress. I wanted to have Dan on the show because he's worked with over 4,000 small gyms so he knows what successful gyms look like and has the data to back it up, along with what actions successful operators perform regularly.

I also love that as soon I as mentioned "PushPress" his face soured as he didn't want to talk about his product, instead focusing on how he could help the listener (gym/academy owner) through what he shared on the show.

It was awesome to have Dan on the show and I hope you found it as valuable as I did. If you want to learn more about Dan here check out the links below.

  • Ep. 49 - Keeping your momentum in business
    Feb 5 2025

There are natural ebs, flows, and seasons in your Jiu Jitsu academy. We are in a high season right now where new students are seeking you out at a rate that won't be the same in a month or two.

So while most BJJ gyms have gotten some good momentum early in the year the trick is keeping it. Not letting your foot off the gas too long or too often.

Keeping momentum is pretty simple, keep doing what you're doing when times are good. If momentum is being lost check your numbers to see what area of your business needs more attention to keep the good times rolling and work on that.

This episode is in no way ground breaking information, but I wish someone would have reminded me of this more often in my years of gym ownership.

I hope this one finds you well and if you're looking for more ways to get new students head on over to www.Growjitsu.com and download the latest free guide.

  • Ep. 48 - Jeremy Brick - How Jiu Jitsu changes lives
    Jan 30 2025

Jeremy Brick has a heck of a comptetive resume as a world champion having won the following titles.

2024 M3 Brown Belt Grandslam Winner

    4x Master World Champion

    2x No-Gi World Champion

    5x Pan American Champion

    The list literally continues...

What's just as inspiring as his accomplishments in tournaments is the story of how he came to Jiu Jitsu and the impact it had on his life.

We also talked about how doing seeminly small but important things in your business can have a major impact on your students. Things as simple as starting class on time, and showing some level of kindness to white belts because they're people too :)

All in all it was a great chatting with Jeremy and if you want to reach out to him you can find his socials down below.

  • Ep. 47 - JP Levesque - You don't have to sell out to sell.
    Jan 27 2025

I know you didn't open a Jiu Jitsu school to sell memberships. The people, the training, the learning, and the growth! There are so many great reasons to train Jiu Jitsu.

But owning a school means you've got to keep the lights on some how to enjoy the fun training part. I know as an owner you understand the need to to pay your bills. But you can do a lot better than that, your academy can become a sucessful revenue generating business that provides for you, your staff, and your family.

That being said you must first believe in two things, that sales is necessary for the growth of your business, and that it is not scummy or slimy, it is service. Sales done well is helping people make a decision with a clear offer. Not dancing like a monkey, begging, pressuring or pushing.

You can build out a sales process that feels good, has your values, keeps your integrity and still delivers results.

  • Ep. 45 - JP Levesque - Launching successful events for your students
    Jan 20 2025

Most academy owners understand the importance of running events. However not everyone gets how to promote these events effectively. Most academy owners don't want to bombard their students with emails, posts and communication.

But that percetption isn't founded in reality, I've never once seen so much promotional content from a gym or academy that it put a student off. The goal is to temporarily boost your signal strength so you can make sure your event's are well attended, gis/uniforms are pre-ordered and people are included.

This podcast walks through the basics of good event promotion for your school. It's not fancy nor is it complicated, but it is effective.

It's also very easy to create systems out of so every time you launch an event you follow the same template. Once you've done this in your business for a year or two you'll be able to use nearly all the same promotional material with just an update or two.

  • Ep. 43 - New Year, Now What. How to see business growth in 2025
    Jan 13 2025

Any time there is a big seasonal change the things in this episode will be relevant.

Once a quarter I would make sure you're offering old students a chance to come back, and current students a chance to reinvest in their relationship with you and their training.

The one thing that gains a significant advantage from the new year momentum is the chance to raise your memebrship rates IF and only if your academy meets the criteria discussed in the show.

I hope you've found this episode valuable and you start your 2025 off strong.
