• Liz McKean & Bryce The Third: Music, Self-Expression, and Leaning Into the Blue
    Feb 11 2025

    Send us a text

#19: This week, Liz and Bryce The Third dive into a very special and personal conversation about music, something that has always been close to Bryce's heart. For Bryce, music is an art form for self-expression, and it has helped him build a relationship with himself. When he got sober, Bryce thought he might never be able to experience music again — let alone create it. However, in recovery Bryce has created his own home within music, listening and creating the way he wants to.

Liz also touches on her own relationship with music, noting how much like Bryce, music allows her to express her emotions in a safe, cathartic way — freeing the feelings that feel 'stuck.' Tune in to hear more about Bryce's journey, from his early inspiration by Eminem to rediscovering his love for music with his community in rehab, and now to sharing his artwork with the world.

Check out Bryce's latest EP For Colder Weather on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/3sqlorxvKsuszLUP6EHuMg.

  • Chris Clemens: Creator of NonROCaholic and the Rise of Non-Alcoholic Beverages
    Jan 28 2025

    Send us a text

#18: Chris Clemens (he/him) is a born-and-raised resident of Rochester, New York, who got sober just one month before his 17th birthday in May 1996. For many years in early recovery Chris followed a practice of total abstinence. But nearly 30 years later, his approach to recovery has evolved. Today, Chris is a passionate advocate for non-alcoholic beers and mocktails. While he acknowledges this path isn't for everyone, he's created nonROCaholic, a blog dedicated to helping his local community discover non-alcoholic options.

In this episode, Bryce The Third and Liz sit down with Chris to discuss his journey — from getting sober at a young age to how sobriety stuck over the years. We also explore his motivation behind creating nonROCaholic, the power of "trying it on" for easing into behavioral changes, and the rise of sober curious people and mocktails in today's culture.

Check out www.nonrocaholic.com for your guide on where to find tasty mocktails, nonalcoholic beer, juices, sodas, and more in The Finger Lakes Region of New York. You can find them on Instagram @nonrocaholic and Facebook at Nonrocaholic.

    Dec 31 2024

#14: This week Liz and Bryce The Third are joined by Rob Baumgartner (he/him), a long-time team member, volunteer, and staff member with The Phoenix. Rob first joined The Phoenix in 2007, when the newly-formed organization had about 160 members. Today, he serves as the Regional Manager for the Mountains & Plains states.

For Rob, his climbing journey and recovery journey are deeply intertwined. Rob shares how these two paths are intrinsically linked, emphasizing the power of choice, community, and the importance of supporting others. • Navigating the Holidays with Self-Compassion: A Conversation with Liz and Bryce The Third
    Dec 24 2024

    Send us a text

#13: This week, Liz and Bryce The Third reflect on the evolution of their relationships with the holidays and check in on how they're both feeling this season.

For Liz, this holiday season feels different from years past—stirring up both joy and grief, and reminding her that recovery is an ongoing, non-linear journey. While intense feelings and memories have surfaced, she’s learning to hold both the joy and the grief, allowing herself to experience them safely and work through them.

Bryce shares how his relationship with holidays has shifted through his own recovery, and how he's reached a place where he shows up for celebrations how he wants to. Through cultivating a relationship with himself, he's learned how to navigate these big holidays, which in turn strengthened his relationships with his friends and family.

Tune in to hear the conversation between Bryce The Third and Liz. And a reminder from your hosts this holiday season: your feelings are valid, we relate to you, and we are so glad you're here.
