• E20: Creating Impact through Writing with Sherri Coale
    Feb 18 2025

Sherri Coale, a native Oklahoman, grew up in a small rural town, falling in love with reading, writing, and basketball. After a standout collegiate career at Oklahoma Christian, she transitioned from player to coach, embarking on a Hall of Fame career.

For 25 years, she led the University of Oklahoma women’s basketball team, becoming the program’s winningest coach. Under her leadership, OU made 19 straight NCAA tournaments and three Final Four appearances.

Coale is inducted into multiple Hall of Fames, including the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. She also coached USA Basketball, winning a bronze in 2001 and a gold in the 2013 World University Games. Beyond the court, she earned recognition for her players’ academic success and community service.

Her hometown of Healdton proudly honors her with “Home of” signs at both entrances, a tribute to her lasting legacy.

    ---
In this conversation, Sherri Coale and I dive into the transition from coaching to writing, the power of storytelling, and the lessons that connect both disciplines.

Sherri, former head women’s basketball coach at the University of Oklahoma, shares how writing has always been a part of her coaching career. We discuss how the pandemic created space for her to reconnect with this passion, ultimately leading to her weekly blog and her book, Rooted to Rise.

Consider the parallels between coaching and writing—both require discipline, consistency, and a deep commitment to growth. Sherri and I explore how storytelling allows us to reflect, connect, and honor the people who’ve shaped our journeys.

We also talk about the impact of mentorship, the importance of showing up even when motivation is low, and how writing can be a powerful tool for self-discovery.

    ---

    Key Takeaways:

    • Writing fosters self-reflection and deeper connection.
    • Recognizing and honoring those who’ve shaped our journey amplifies gratitude.
    • Consistency is essential—whether in athletics, leadership, or creative pursuits.
    • Daily writing is a practice that strengthens both skill and perspective.

  • Season 2! E16: From Reflection to Empowerment with Dr Laura Ciel
    Jan 21 2025

In this episode, I reflect on how embracing change and empowerment can help us navigate the challenges and opportunities of 2024. Last year was a time of deep reflection for many—a chance to question old routines and recognize the power we have to shape our responses, even when external circumstances feel beyond our control. This realization is key as we step into a new year filled with potential.

I explore how building trust in ourselves creates a foundation for growth and authenticity. By recognizing where we no longer accept the status quo, we can begin making meaningful shifts toward a life that aligns with our passions and true selves. It’s a process of learning to lead from within, honoring who we are, and sharing that authenticity with the world around us.

I also touch on the importance of nurturing the things that bring us joy and fulfillment. For me, this means connecting with stories of resilience, bold choices, and personal empowerment—whether it’s pursuing a passion, navigating transitions, or finding balance in our complex roles. These stories remind us that we all have the ability to create positive change, no matter how big or small.

As we explore these themes in this season, I invite you to reflect on where you want to build more trust in yourself and lean into your unique gifts. Together, we’ll embrace the complexities of life, love, and leadership with purpose and connection.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Recognizing where you no longer accept the status quo is the first step to meaningful change.
