Publisher's summary

And I have done more than just simply get by

So much more than escape or survive

Through the galvanisation of love, time and patience

I’ll take hold of my story and thrive

After life that was seldom what life ought to be

Through laughter and love I’ll be whole

This story is mine from the cover to spine

And the narrative I will control

Whether she’s writing letters to her younger self, advocating for women’s rights or adapting fairy tales to process an abusive relationship, Len’s voice is bold, unashamedly frank and unmistakably hers.

The poems in this collection, both funny and fiercely feminist, announce a formidable new talent. Moving deftly between English and Scots, poyums is as approachable as it is affecting.

Scots word of the day is braw

Len’s rage is beautiful, her tenacity vivid, and her voice evocative. This collection is wonderfully mesmerizing.

Such a powerful collection

I bought Poyums on paper a while ago and quickly realised I couldn't do them justice reading them in my very poor attempt at Scots. Listening to Len performing each poyum was exactly the amazing, emotional experience that I anticipated it to be. Poyums is great on paper, and made exquisite by the passionate way in which Len narrates each one. I'm sure I will listen again and again.

The writing is excellent

Good writing makes you feel and connect. In less than a minute, these poems would give me chills or tear up or feel enraged. The subjects may not be everyone’s cup of tea but they really should be. The way she explains things is excellent and would help anyone who doesn’t already understand them, if only they took the time to listen with an open heart and mind.

Inspirational book of poetry

I loved hearing Poyums read by the author Len Pennie. Her words spoke deeply to me and I imagine many women who are surviors of domestic violence and abuse. Thank you, Len for sharing your pain with the world and creating something beautiful out of your sorrow. ❤️

Powerful

I am in awe.

That’s it, I’ve been left without any other words.

Maybe after my third listen through they’ll come back

Amazing Poetry and Performance

This was such a good listen! It was beautiful, devastating, stunning, and painful. I cried more than once. Poetry deserves to be spoken aloud, and the author did her work justice with this performance. I cannot recommend this audiobook highly enough.

A beautiful, passionate reading (telling) of a Scotswoman’s Poetry.

The remarkable cadence of her vibrant brogue, fearless language, and deep emotional presence brings the poetry straight to the heart and mind. Emotionally very powerful. I shall try to patiently wait for the next book. In the interim I shall replay this reading many times.
