About this listen
There’s more to winning battles than fists and feet
For world-renowned professional fighter Georges St-Pierre, the greatest asset is not physical strength or athleticism - it’s a sense of purpose. From his beginnings as a small, mercilessly bullied child first discovering karate to his years as a struggling garbage collector who spent all his free time in the gym, his hard-fought rise in the sport of mixed martial arts, and his long, painful recovery from a career-threatening injury, Georges never lost sight of his ambition to become the greatest martial artist of all time. In The Way of the Fight, Georges for the first time reveals what propelled him not only to become a champion but to embrace obstacles as opportunities to build character.
Georges’ story is interwoven with fascinating insights from those who know him best: his mother, who tells of his drive to master new skills, even as a child. His mentor Kristof Midoux, who describes a young fighter with an extraordinary sense of discipline. His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teacher John Danaher, who witnessed the development of an indomitable work ethic. His coach Firas Zahabi, who worked alongside the champion through a potentially career-ending injury. And his longtime friend, training partner and manager, Rodolphe Beaulieu, who may understand this intensely focused athlete more than anyone.
The Way of the Fight is an inspirational look into the mindset of a master. To Georges, all life is competition, and there’s no more perfect metaphor for competition than the life of a fighter. He explains the value of discipline, risk and even fear, with the wisdom of one who knows that nothing is assured - his next fight could always be his last. Drawing inspiration from fighting legends, Eastern philosophy and a trusted inner circle, The Way of the Fight is a powerful, life-changing guide to living with purpose and finding the way to accomplish your loftiest goals.

What are the origins of Brazilian jiujitsu? Is it merely a by-product—a rebel offspring—of judo? What was the nature and content of the art that Mitsuyo Maeda, a.k.a. “Count Koma”, and other Japanese were teaching in the Amazon? Was it judo? Jiujitsu? His own personal fight-tested style, built on a foundation of judo and informed by his dozens and dozens of matches around the world? What was the bridge between the art he learned at the Kodokan and the Brazilian style--a style now practiced by millions worldwide and growing bigger every day--that claims him as its godfather?

The Rise and Evolution of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu also discusses the greatest challenges the art faces today, as its popularity carries with it problems that threaten to fragment precisely some of the qualities that set jiu-jitsu apart from other martial arts to begin with.

Because they’re asking their body to take on next-level demands, but failing at life’s most essential skill: efficient breathing.

A mythic figure in fighting and a legendary member of the “first family of martial arts,” Rickson Gracie is considered the godfather of what we recognize today as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Although Rickson’s three decades of total dominance in Jiu Jitsu is astounding, even more astounding is the serenity and spiritual depth of his approach to combat. For Rickson, Jiu Jitsu is a metaphor for life. Some consider Jiu Jitsu a martial art, others consider it a sport, but to Gracie, it is a philosophical system he uses to face and evaluate life’s challenges and maintain happiness and mental balance.

The Rise and Evolution of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu also discusses the greatest challenges the art faces today, as its popularity carries with it problems that threaten to fragment precisely some of the qualities that set jiu-jitsu apart from other martial arts to begin with.

Story

In today's modern world, we are largely isolated from the kind of savagery our ancestors faced on a daily basis. Great Lessons
I really enjoyed the mindset of one of the best fighters out there. He really gets down to earth and explains the realities of fear and how he has handled those issues. Also a great look into how dedication will get you where you need to be.

Well done George
This book was not only a perfect fit for anyone struggling with motivation, anxiety, or most specifically “fear” as a negative source within your life. George’s words are astonishingly poetic and he truly welcomes you into his worldview both physical and philosophically. Stone did a phenomenal job narrating and I could not have enjoyed this book more!

if you want to have an insight of how the brain of an elite sports performer works this is the book of choice.
a very inspiring and worthy audiobook if you like mma and sport psychology. GSP is a legend and is quite interesting to hear him and his team stories and thoughts
the only one thing i dislike about the audio was the tone and pace of the narrator, at first it was a little bit odd but get used to quickly and despite that i really enjoy the book .

Progress comes from Openness
Those were the last words spoken by George in his book. I learned so much from him. how to be a balanced martial artist, how to stay focused on a big goal, how to approach fear, and to never stop learning.
GSP is the real deal, and this book is a terrific personal development guide. it distinguishes itself from other generic personal development books because it was written by a real world champion who knows struggle and winning, not just some theoretical philosopher...
