Bruce Lee
About this listen
A teacher is never a giver of truth—he is a guide, a pointer to the truth that each student must find for himself. A good teacher is merely a catalyst. (Bruce Lee)
Within the chapters of Striking Thoughts, you will find the secrets of Bruce Lee's incredible success—as an actor, martial artist, and inspiration to the world. Consisting of eight sections, Striking Thoughts covers 72 topics and 825 aphorisms—from spirituality to personal liberation and from family life to filmmaking—all of which Bruce lived by.
His ideas helped energize his life and career and made it possible for him to live a happy and assured life, overcoming challenging obstacles with seeming ease. They also inspired his family, friends, students, and colleagues to achieve success in their own lives, and this personal collection will help you in your journey, too.
The sections include:
- On First Principles—life, existence, time, and death
- On Being Human—the mind, happiness, fear, and dreams
- On Matters of Existence—health, love, marriage, raising children, ethics, racism, and adversity
- On Achievement—work, goals, faith, success, money, and fame
- On Art and Artists—art, filmmaking, and acting
- On Personal Liberation—conditioning, Zen Buddhism, meditation, and freedom
- On the Process of Becoming—self-actualization, self-help, self-expression, and growth
- On Ultimate (Final) Principles—yin-yang, totality, Tao, and the truth
This audiobook is narrated by Peter Kim. Produced and published by Echo Point Books & Media, an independent bookseller in Brattleboro, Vermont.

Story
In the Chinese calendar, 1964 was the Year of the Green Dragon. It would be a challenging and eventful year for Bruce Lee. He would broadcast his dissenting view before the first great international martial arts gathering and then defend it by facing down Chinatown's young ace kung fu practitioner in a legendary behind-closed-doors, high-noon-style showdown. The Year of the Green Dragon saw the dawn of martial arts in America and the rise of an icon.

Story
A mythic figure in fighting and a legendary member of the “first family of martial arts,” Rickson Gracie is considered the godfather of what we recognize today as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Although Rickson’s three decades of total dominance in Jiu Jitsu is astounding, even more astounding is the serenity and spiritual depth of his approach to combat. For Rickson, Jiu Jitsu is a metaphor for life. Some consider Jiu Jitsu a martial art, others consider it a sport, but to Gracie, it is a philosophical system he uses to face and evaluate life’s challenges and maintain happiness and mental balance.

Story
For decades, Adam Gopnik has been one of our most beloved writers, a brilliantly perceptive critic of art, food, France, and more. But recently, he became obsessed by a fundamental matter: How did the people he was writing about learn their outlandish skill, whether it was drawing a nude or baking a sourdough loaf? In The Real Work, Gopnik apprentices himself to an artist, a dancer, a boxer, and even a driving instructor (from the DMV), among others, trying his late-middle-age hand at things he assumed were beyond him.

Bruce the philosopher par excellance!
I knew Bruce was a philosopher but I wasn't expecting the level of depth and understanding. A timless book, I also ordered the paperbavk book for my collection. Great interpretation also by narrator, sounds like Bruce! Overall, its a great success!

Life Changing
Mr. Kim is an excellent narrator who exudes presence, gentility and fluid delivery.
Bruce’s observations - and the different philosophies they are based on - are a truly helpful contrast to our full-of-distraction world.

The only thing that I disliked was that it wasn't longer... oh if it only had been longer. However, I am both full and empty of it wanting more no less.

All that heavenly glory!
What a great book by a man wise long beyond his years! I will most likely listen to this again and again over my years just to find out how I hear it differently as I grow and change. The cup’s usefulness is in its emptiness.
