About this listen

Vietnam Abyss: A Journal of Unmerited Grace is the inspiring true story of Michael J. Snook, a Vietnam veteran, who served in the US Army and after returning home from the war descended into the darkness of chronic and debilitating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Developing severe alcoholism, he becomes insane and experiences multiple confinements in a Veterans Administration psychiatric ward. Later after encountering an “angel” and through his perseverance and participation in PTSD counseling sessions and with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Michael fully recovers and becomes a born-again Christian and a certified minister. From a life of shattered dreams and broken promises, his wounded soul heals, and he comes out of the dark abyss and begins to shine for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

solid outside narration for a memoir

It always feels a little jarring to me when memoirs (or in this case, diaries) aren't narrated by the author - after all, who can voice their own story better? But Seybert did a good job, and didn't come off as if he were reading someone else's words at all, to the point that I would often forget that the book *wasn't* narrated by the author himself.

What happened to Mark?

I wish I would have known the man who wrote this book? While he was living it so too was I. Though I think with the kid driving the cart he spent more time. Love you Dad

The Aftereffects of War

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This review is for the audio copy of Vietnam Abyss A Journal of Unmerited Grace, by Michael Snook, Stan Corvin and narrated by Jim Seybert. This book provided great insight into what our American war heroes go through and have gone through in the wars and battles in our history. It is a good thought provoking story that helps me better understand the challenges these men and women go through. Jim of course narrated the story is a superlative manner. His pace and inflection fit the story to a tee.
