About this listen

Here is the amazing true story of an out-of-control rock star, his devastating addiction to drugs, and his miraculous redemption through Jesus Christ.

In February 2005, more than 10,000 people in Bakersfield, California, watched as Brian “Head” Welch—the former lead guitarist of the controversial rock band Korn—was saved by Jesus Christ. The event set off a media frenzy as observers from around the world sought to understand what led this rock star out of the darkness and into the light.

Now, in this courageous memoir, Head talks for the first time about his shocking embrace of God and the tumultuous decade that led him into the arms of Jesus Christ. Offering a backstage pass to his time with Korn, Head tells the inside story of his years in the band and explains how his rock-star lifestyle resulted in an all-consuming addiction to methamphetamine. Writing openly about the tour bus mayhem of Ozzfest and the Family Values Tour, he provides a candid look at how the routine of recording, traveling, and partying placed him in a cycle of addiction that he could not break on his own.

Speaking honestly about his addiction, Head details his struggles with the drug that ultimately led him to seek a higher power. Despite his numerous attempts to free himself from meth, nothing—not even the birth of his daughter—could spur him to kick it for good. Here Head addresses how, with the help of God, he emerged from his dangerous lifestyle and found a path that was not only right for his daughter, but was right for him.

Discussing the chaotic end to his time in Korn and how his newfound faith has influenced his relationship with his daughter, his life, and his music, Head describes the challenging but rewarding events of previous years, exposing the truth about how his moments of doubt and his hardships have only deepened his faith.

Candid, compelling, and inspirational, Save Me from Myself is a rock ’n’ roll journey unlike any other.

Powerful, Raw and Honest

Powerful testimony! Motivates me to want to strengthen my walk with Jesus. Narrator did a good job. Thank you Brian "Head" Welch for being so honest amd open. Became a bigger fan of Korn knowing my brothers in Christ are there.

I’m not alone

For a long time I’ve believed I was a broken Christian. That there’s something wrong with me. I’ve been saved since I was 12, but depression has been a constant in my life from an even younger age. Psychiatrists and every brain med on the market. It’s been what seems like a never ending loop that cycles through seasons. I’ve back slidden for LONG stretches, coming back just to give up again when I felt like I had let God down again. Now, at 33, I’m just done. I’m done with doubt, done with not feeling in control of my depression, and I’m done running. I know God wants me, so He can have all of me, and He can deal with the depression and self destructive behaviors that take over. This book hit home. Unhealthy relationships, drug addiction, hating myself. Only difference is I went through that all after accepting Christ, which made my guilt even more intense. I’ve been so ashamed. But I’m learning how there is no pain without purpose, and because of my pain I can relate to people that most couldn’t. I know their pain because it’s my own. God can use my hot mess somehow. I’m done fighting it. Thank you so much Head for this. I needed to hear this right now, years after you wrote it, because God’s timing is perfect and He knew I’d need it in this season of my life. This was the very first audiobook I’ve ever listened too, and because it was such an impactful experience, I know it won’t be the last. Much love from Las Vegas.

Beautiful truth

Brian's testimony is moving and motivational to say the least. The narrator is very monotone unfortunately though.

Heavy Metal TRUTH

The story of Brian's life before he came to God is hard to hear. The drugs, depravity & depression & destruction are a sad testament of a lost soul, but it is worth hearing it in order to showcase just how God pursues a man & brings him out of darkness, into his marvelous light! Thank you, Brian! From your sister, Dian Burch

Tell-All book by former Korn guitarist

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book is truly a tell-all book, just not about Korn. Brian Welch tells all about what it was like living as an addicted rock star. I found it was quite interesting. This dude was a long long time drug user with a major adiction and kicked it without the help of rehab, but rather with a lot of prayer. He brings out all of his skeletons and fesses up to more than just the drug addiction. I thought it was pretty cool to see a guy so famous become so transparant. He also talks through how it took him years to really grow as a christian and understand God's love, and to be able to forgive people he hated, and ask forgiveness from those he wronged. Parts of the book are almost a confessional and I can see how it was probably therapuetic writing for Welch. There is a point in the book where he writes about being an new christian that was on fire big time, with tons of money to back it up. But as the book continues you can see how he grew as a christian over the past years since quitting Korn.

It may be something very different than what you would normally listen to, but I would definitely recommend it. It is not that long and I did not find any parts of it boring, nor did I find myself yelling at my iphone "get on with the story already!" like I often do with the 30 hour fiction books.

Who was your favorite character and why?
