Publisher's summary

A touching, funny, heart-wrenching, and triumphant memoir from one of the biggest names in radio, the host of The Bobby Bones Show, one of the most listened-to drive time morning radio shows in the nation.

Growing up poor in Mountain Pine, Arkansas, with a young, addicted mom, Bobby Estell fell in love with country music. Abandoned by his father at the age of five, Bobby saw the radio as his way out - a dream that came true in college when he went on air at the Henderson State University campus station, broadcasting as Bobby Bones while simultaneously starting The Bobby Bones Show at 105.9 KLAZ.

Bobby's passions were pop, country music, and comedy, and he blended the three to become a tastemaker in the country music industry, heard by millions daily. Bobby broke the format of standard country radio, mixing country and pop with entertainment news and information, and has interviewed some of the biggest names in the business, including Luke Bryan, Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Lady Antebellum, and Jason Aldean.

Yet despite the glamour, fame, and money, Bobby has never forgotten his roots: the mom and grandmother who raised him; the work ethic he embraced, which saved him and encouraged him to explore the world; and the good values that shaped him. In this funny, poignant memoir told in Bobby's distinctive patter, he takes fans on a tour of his road to radio. Bobby doesn't shy away from the curves he continues to navigate - including his obsessive-compulsive disorder - on his journey to find the happiness of a healthy family.

Funny and tender, raw and honest, Bare Bones is pure Bobby Bones - surprising, entertaining, inspiring, and authentic.

Raw & Real

Listening to this book was like listening to a friend tell me about his life. Not flashy but real. I am fortunate enough to know a few people that have come from rough beginnings to find success, however Bobby Bone's journey is laid out in this book. There are several common denominators:
1. Show up every day and work hard
2. Don't be afraid to take personal or professional risk
3. Don't let failure paralyze you, instead, let it motivate you to push forward
4. Don't stop for too long and get content, strive for something new.

That, right there, is a recipe for success

Bobby, I feel that.

Bobby expresses so many things, awkardly and elegantly, that I can completely relate to. When he speaks about difficulty trusting everyone after a parent leaves and difficulty with expressing emotions, he could have been talking to me. This feels like it came straight from my heart.

A Better Understanding...

I have been listening to Bobby Bones for over two years, first when we lived in Arkansas now while living in Florida. He's an honest man sometimes too much but I enjoy listening to him every morning on country radio. This book was no different; it's his words and actually his voice which makes it more enjoyable. I admire Bobby for always giving back and being a good example for others. This was definitely a great "read" and it provided a better understanding of who Mr. Bobby Bones truly is. Take a moment and listen.

Awesome!

It was such a good book. I like the fact that Bobby was the one to read it because it's his story. A lot of these stories I recognized due to the radio show, but it was nice to get more details on them. One thing I won't forget is one of his grandma's sayings, "you can't polish a turd." I love it!

Bare Bones Bared All

What an amazing story!!! As a BBS listener for 6+ years I loved the more in-depth inside look to Bobby's life. I am amazed by his KIR mantra and something I use from the show everyday is a good day attitude! Thanks for being raw Bobby!!! Also I laughed and cried a little. I was shocked by some of the details of his life.
